Will it work for me - if I can, I will cheat
The part of the stomach when you have gastric sleeve surgery is a completely different part of the stomach than the pouch that is made the gastric bypass surgery. Our stomachs after surgery are from the muscular part of stomach which is the least stretchy part of the stomach so it does not stretch nearly as much as the gastric bypass pouch. I am now 2 yrs 3 months post op and I can tell you that bread fills me up to the point that if I choose to eat it, I can count on not being able to fit anything else in. I don't have the desire to eat all day long like I did before surgery. There are definitely emotional days when I do have cravings, but really, the sleeve stops me from eating as much I would really like to. I am sure it's possible to gain a lot of the weight back by eating candy and sweets constantly. The scale is my best friend. I weigh every day and it's pretty easy for me to grab control back when I see a gain of a couple of lbs. I did gain 8 lbs this last holiday season, but I do know how to diet. After the holidays, I made up my mind to take it off and since then, I go up and down a couple of lbs from my goal. Honestly, there are days when I just don't feel like eating so it's not hard to stay at goal. In my opinion, your best chance in not gaining the weight back is with the sleeve surgery over any other option that is available.

Border Crossing
Really, you hardly even know you are crossing. You are in the van with the driver and you have to wait a little while sometimes, if there is a line. You basically just stop for a few seconds while they glance inside the van. They don't check inside bags or anything like that. I had a face lift in May in Meicalli and it was the same way that time as when I crossed with Ernesto 2 years ago. We just drove right across the border without any difficulty.

Dr Aceves credentials
thank you so much oregon daisy! this was quite helpful.. .My pleasure! I love being able to give anyone who wants the information all the details about what makes Dr. Aceves such a perfect choice when looking for a surgeon. I got this a couple of years ago when I was looking for a surgeon to do my revision. You can put it on your face book page if you want to!

Depressed after being at goal
sizes are really crazy though. I really don't know what size I wear, but most commonly, an 8. I also have size 4 and 6 jeans that fit me. I recently went to K mart to buy some cheap jeans. I have a lot of painting and work to do on my house since I am selling it. I didn't know what size to take into the dressing room. The ones that fit were an 8 petite though. I thought since it was one of the cheap stores, I'd wear a bigger size. Be happy where you are! There are days I don't feel like eating and don't have much of an appetitie. My weight can go down a bit for a few days when I am feeling like that. Or it will go up if I am upset about something and end up eating some junk. But I weigh every day and I know what I will allow. I am a happy sleever! whether I am up a couple or down a couple! I really don't pay attention to sizes, only the scale.

Pizza
I eat pizza pretty regularly. I can eat one piece and I am stuffed. One piece is definitely my limit, even at 2 + years out. Sometimes I can't even eat most of the crust, and sometimes I am able to eat most of one small slice of thin crust pizza.

Won't sleeve me...
You are supposed to crush pills for awhile after surgery. You will need to talk to you doctor about this.

Need to take vitamins rest of life?
It's really not possible with the small amounts of food that we are able to eat to get all the nutrients we need. There were a lot of people who posted on the OH maintenance forum who are now anemic. I have to take Iron every day and I am still anemic. We get iron from red meat and I certainly can't eat red meat at every meal. I've seen a lot of news/talk shows lately on the importance of taking Vitamin D 3. Doctors are now telling people who aren't even sleeved to take it. Being deficient in Vit D 3 causes food/sweet cravings so who needs that!

Feeling Lethargic
Are you able to get your Protein in? I think the people that can't tolerate the Protein drinks have a harder time with fatigue. Also drinking poweraide or gatoraide seems to help with nausea but it's good to get nausea medication which really does help.

How do i get my pouch smaller again?
You can find the the 5 day pouch diet by just putting it into google but personally I think eating dense Protein and really limiting carbs will do the same thing. I notice on some days I get full really fast and some days I feel like I can eat more. Do not eat to the point of being uncomfortable anymore!

im seriously regretting this
Yes, please keep us informed on your progress. You'll be feeling better soon. Get some poweraide or gatoraide. You can get sugar free but if you aren't drinking much, the extra calories aren't going to make that much difference. K20 Protein Water is good too if you can't tolerate Protein drinks yet.

X & Converted Banders
Good to see you Janet! I hope you never need a revision but if you ever do, it's good that you know right where to come for support! Congrats to your DIL. The sleeve is like a miracle. She will love it.

Uti
You could break them in half. I've had to take cipro too cause I get UTIs all the time. it sucks.

how do they leak test you and does it hurt?
Dr Aceves does 3 leak tests. The first one is done during surgery and you don' t even know it's being done. The second one is done in your room. You drink some apple juice with blue dye in it and then they watch your drain for the next couple of hours to see what color all the fluids being drained out of you are. The 3rd one is the nasty one. You drink some nasty tasting stuff and watch it go down on the screen. I spit in the garbage can as fast as I could afterwards and then ran back to my room and brushed my teeth.

Edamame
Yes this is something I see on a lot of wls boards as things people like and eat. I have some frozen in and I am not really sure what to do with it. I put it in my salad at salad bars and I really like it!

very sick!
None of this sounds normal to me. At 4 month post op life should be becoming a breeze, with eating small meals. You should not be having any of these problems. Go and see your doctor and don't let him poo poo you. Tell him that you should be feeling better by now and you're not. Ask him how many of his other patients are sick all the time.

Solids.. help
don't forget eggs or shrimp. Both are low in fat and carbs.

Power Shots of Protein
Collagen Protein is not a good form of protein . You should not depend on it for your protein needs. You should be drinking whey protein with no collagen. Did you know that collagen is made from boiled cow hides?

Scar treatments
Scar guard is what my plastic surgeon recommended and it's working wonders. There is a big noticeable difference.

I want your opinion on Mexico doctors
I would not even consider anyone other than Dr. Aceves since having 85% of your stomach removed is a serious surgery. He is the best.

Cottage Cheese pouch test
I could never do that because I hate cottage cheese. There are a lot of people on OH who have done it and reported back. I had an Upper GI when I went to Mexicali in May and Dr. Campos told me my sleeve holds 4 oz. That seems about right, although when I order a 6 oz steak, I can only eat half.

Anyone Wish They Had Not Done Their Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
I've never regretting this surgery for one single second. I feel like I eat very normally now . 4th of July I went to a BBQ and I had half of a pretty thick cheese burger and some delicious salad. Try to think ahead when you'll be wearing cute clothes that thin people wear and enjoying food, just not ginormous portions.

What I learned at my Nut Class
I love the calcium citrate chocolate chews. I have then on auto ship. They make it really easy to get calcium.

What I learned at my Nut Class
I don't know why some doctors say no straws. Everything they brought me in the hospital came with a straw. I can't drink without a straw.

1 week post -op and broth for 3 more weeks is that a joke???
You were on broth for a preop diet? I had to have Clear Liquids only for 10 days. Maybe in another week you can call your doctor and see if he will let you progress to other liquids.

Any horse people on this site?
I used to have horses but my bf has 6 horses. One is an Arabian stallion and he is gorgeous. My bf lives on 700 acres and the horses are not broken. He's hoping to get at least couple of them trained this summer.
