    Day after

Can someone tell me how they felt the day after surgery? I will be in hospital one night and was wondering how you felt on the way home? Did anyone have terrible painful gas pains, if so when? I was at a support group a couple months ago and that topic was mentioned several times, one person said they had such severe gas pains in their shoulder and below, they thought they were having a heart attack. I go in on Wednesday and this has really been on my mind.

Weight Increase 4 days post op

Yes, that is extremely common. They pump you full of IV fluids in the hospital, so it's normal and expected to temporarily gain weight from that. Right now, it is too early to worry about your weight at all. The scale is meaningless at this point. You just need to focus on getting your fluids and protein for now.

    Cereal

oh yes - I used to put cinnamon in mine as well (along with the protein powder). I think I'll play around with this today - you've inspired me!

I haven't heard this, maybe contact your surgeon or if the clinic has a nurse that you can ask? I imagine they will be taking your temperature etc so hopefully that would cover off on any issues.

    Cereal

The protein cereal doesn't sound so good. I guess it will be oatmeal as usual. After surgery I don't like eggs too much. I have cooked them thinking I will eat them, and end up throwing them away. I am not, or ever been much of a yogurt eater. I am lactose intolerant, and have tried those, but I don't like it. I did end up buying the caramel flavored Fairlife Protein Shake (someone on here told me about it), and I do like that one. I have not tried the chocolate yet. Funny how our taste changes after surgery.

Slee e revision or gastric bypass

if you're no longer logging your food intake, you might want to go back to that for awhile and see if it helps. I quit logging my food and weighing myself for about a month when I was in India last year (well, I didn't have access to a scale, so...). I wasn't eating like a pig or anything, but I came home a few lbs heavier than when I left. Through that I learned I have to monitor myself pretty much all the time, or my weight will start heading north. Although I know different things work for different people...(my dietitian hates the fact I count calories and weigh myself so much, but hey...whatever works. And that's been working for me for the past several years, so...)

I did keto for a while and it’s really hard the first few weeks but then after you get in ketosis it’s much easier. You can’t have bread at all on keto. The only carbs you should eat are green, non-starchy vegetables, which are easily under 20g of net carbs a day (net carbs=total carbs minus fiber). Focus on meat, cheese, and green vegetables. I lost a good amount of weight with keto but it gave me gallbladder and stomach problems so I had to stop and ended up 20lbs higher than I was before. So I don’t know if I’d recommend it, but that’s how to do it.

    NEW BREASTFEEDING MAMA!

I had my surgery when I was still breastfeeding my 9 month old. It wasn't a problem at all. I had to pump and dump the first 24 hours after surgery, but then I was put on pain meds that were okay to take while breastfeeding. My husband actually brought her to me and I breastfed her while I was still in the hospital. You can find comfortable ways to hold your baby even with the incisions. Be extra vigilant getting in your Vitamins and Protein because baby will be taking lots of your nutrients, but I didn't have any problems. Don't stress out. You can do it! And you'll be giving your baby a much healthier mama to care for them! Sent from my LG-D801 using the BariatricPal App
