    MY DISNEY VACA!!!!

Your post is so timely! I'm also from NJ and will be taking my 6 year old niece to Disney in May, she's also a SW's lover, but very into Elsa and Cinderella. I promised to take her this year and I am looking forward to being able to fit on the plane and on the rides. I just had my sleeve last Monday, so I'm hoping by the end of May I will be able to eat and maintain hydration. Reading your posts make me excited for my own trip...and hopeful. 😀 Hope your having fun and keep up the great and useful posts!!

    The No Excuses Support Thread

Even having studied holistic health, Ayurvedic medicine, and nutrition- As well as living with metabolic disorders. I’m far from understanding anything. Except that calories are not equal, both the form it takes a AND how each person’s body metabolizes it. I think this argument can keep going til the cows come home but reality is while yes calories are important, depending on the way your body works All calories are definitely not equal. Also exercise is not for weight loss as much as it is for building muscle and muscle uses more calories per lb than fat. At rest, Body Fat only burns 3 calories per lb! While muscle (I don’t remember exactly) I think burns 50 calories per lb. as for protein intake It’s important to adapt your daily intake based on your current weight. Approximately 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound. Personally I think it’s healthy to stick to guidelines of protein, little to no sugar, then adding vegetables as tolerated. And introducing complex carbs in maintenance as tolerated. Also low carb doesn’t always = meat only or high protein ... as for calories ... corn is not the same calories as spinach sprouted grain sourdough bread isn’t the same as processed white bread Etc etc etc I’m too tired ... sorry also ... @FluffyChix posted some very informative videos

My sleeve surgery was 12/28. My dr protocol is only clear liquids the first week so I wouldn't worry about getting any food in at all. In fact it can be dangerous while your new stomach is healing. Focus on fluids only at this point. Good luck!

    Frustrated with my doctor's office!

I feel your frustration. I had surgery a week ago and was told at discharge to call my surgeons office to make a postop appt. And to call the Dietician to make follow up appts. I got the surgeons apt. 4 weeks out. However I've never recieved a call back from the dietician office and I left 2 vm msgs. ! I feel like they are not there to help at all. I was told at preop dietary mtgs. to follow the program book, but it is not specific enough to be helpful. TBH, I have found the answers I've needed this far from the vsg redditt community. Good advice from real people.

I had no idea that there was a blog function in BariatricPal. Ive been using what I think is status updates to talk out loud to myself for a while. So now I can do it here instead!

I use the Predermine line from Darphin. It's massively overpriced so I buy it here. I think eventually I might try fillers and botox, but these are helping.

    Pain Question

The compression garment is supposed to be tight, and you neeeeeed to wear it. I stopped wearing mine too soon, and had complications that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. It sounds like yours is much tighter than mine, though - it was like a tight girdle or spanx, but not so intrusive that I couldn’t sleep or that was actually painful. I’d talk to the surgeon’s team about that one. As for the drains, there really is nothing to worry about. It’s a small tugging sensation that lasts a couple of seconds at most, with absolutely no pain.

    Questions about eating

I’m having such a hard time. I had surgery 11/15. Nearly everything makes me nauseated. I’m never hungry. Is there ever a point where you can take normal bites again? Will there be a point where it is possible to eat “normally” again? Eating meat scares me, it never seems to go down ok or sit well. I just want to feel normal again. I usually feel nervous about eating because it is so unpleasant. What is eating like further out from surgery?
