2weeks post op and wanting non liquid food

I got my surgery the same day (vsg) and what is keeping this phase interesting for me is mixing flavors. For example, today I had a half of a cup of butternut squash soup and I added some plain/nonfat/sugar free green yogurt sort of mimicking sour cream. I am also added things like cinnamon and nutmeg to my vanilla shakes or to plain yogurt. Tuesday I can start purées and I’m almost nervous as I’m losing so fast/quickly that I worry it will slow down! Lol I honestly have no appetite and have to force myself to eat. Yes, my brain misses normal food but we can do this! We can fight the demons that made us overweight!!

24 hours to go I cannot wait!!!

Good luck! It will go well. I remember the day before, I was on autopilot and just went through the process that I'd rehearsed in my mind before hand. Before you know it, you will be on the losers bench. 👍

    Anyone go to hospital alone?

A lovely friend took me to the hospital and stayed until I was taken to start the pre surgical processes. My bag was taken from me at this point & was in my room after the surgery. My doctor said he would keep me in a second night because I lived alone but I stayed a third night as I suffered terrible back spasms. My friend picked me up when I was discharged. I slept most of the time in hospital after surgery (except when I was in pain from my back 😩) - couldn’t seem to concentrate to read, watch Netflix or make conversation with visitors so being alone wasn’t an issue. I made sure I had all my protein shakes, clear broths, etc. and non prescription medications all set to go before I went to hospital so I wouldn’t have to go out or get people to go shopping for me for two weeks post surgery. Good luck.

It’s been a struggle, especially in the beginning. I invested in belts, but that only goes so far. I keep a minimum of a few basics that I fit at all times: one pair of jeans, one pair of black pants, a black skirt, a pair of white pants, and then whatever tops are seasonal. I can mix and match things easily. I also have blazers, because these can be worn open when they are a bit on the small side, so they last a while. Dresses that can be cinched with a belt when they get big are great. I shop second hand for the most part, either thrift stores or Poshmark, but stick to those basic pieces. I consider it more that I’m renting clothes rather than buying them at this point. I have somehow maintained a business casual look with just a very basic wardrobe. It’s tempting to buy a ton now that I fit in regular sizes and the world has opened up, but until I stabilize I’m keeping it under control (mostly). Sometimes I wish I could just wear baggy sweats and t-shirts and save the money, but somehow I think it would be frowned upon at my job 😂 Besides, loose baggy clothes billowing around me drives me nuts! Thrift stores have been my saving grace.

    Any advice pre-op

The best thing I ever did preop was to give up the addictive substances. I knew I couldn't have them after surgery, and getting past the withdrawal and cravings beforehand made recovery much easier. So, I gave up caffeine, all alcohol, all sugar, all soda, all artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors. I hadn't eaten wheat (gluten) for years, so that was not an issue. By the time surgery came around, I felt clean and detoxed. I did not eat the jello or popsicles in the hospital. I brought my own broth, herbal tea, and protein drink. Turned out they did have some great tasting gluten free broth that was fine.

Hi there We aren’t far apart - I started at 234, and am now 135-137 - nice and stable now for 9 months. I hit my goal, which was 154ish, in 6 months. I did work the thing pretty hard and seldom strayed from the eating plan, and honestly my loss was no slower than anyone else’s. I had previously had a gastric band which broke and I had slowly regained about 7-10lbs a year and was approachingbpre-band weight so had a bypass. I knew this was my last shot, so went for it! Totally reshaped my eating and started exercising. Started with an electric bicycle and, once some weight was off, started the Couch 2 5k app to start running. I run 3x a week now, cycle 3x a week, and gym 3-4 times a week. I love having lovely curves muscles now! You can do it - pick up sheer bloody-minded determination to bust a gut for 6 months over this (not literally of course!) and you’ll not be far off being able to try on every outfit in every shop!

    KETO

True Keto is high fat, moderate protein, extreme low carb. I have been keto for quite a while. I do very traditional Keto and use calculated macros, which are calculated according to my weight/height/ etc. I started Keto when I was struggling with regain and got some not-so-good health updates that finally kicked me into action and got the ball rolling. I have done really well, losing 40 lbs almost effortlessly. I have lost all of my regain, but I'd like to go another 20 to get to my ultimate goal. Hopefully by the end of summer I'll be there. I also incorporate Intermittent Fasting into my regimen and do this when I feel like carb creep is getting to be an issue. It works wonders and has definitely helped with my loss. My doc is all for it, and very supportive of the whole thing.
