Exactly Seven Days Out of Surgery

I'm exactly seven days out from walking into the surgical suite and feeling pretty darn good. This was my progression getting here. Day 1: Surgery went fine, but for me I absolutely hated the 14 hours between waking up in recovery and discharge. Things were deeply uncomfortable between the surgery and not being allowed to sleep (1am, 3am, 4am, and 5am wakeups didn't help). For folks who go through this and start regretting the surgery, hold on it gets better from here. Day 2: I had a long car ride home if you expect this, make sure you are topped off on the Tylenol II for the ride. Pretty much needed to make sure that I was taking my pain meds every 4 hours. Day 3: Pain was more manageable and drinking was easier (getting down the Protein Shake was tough though), cut the Tylenol II to first thing in the morning and right before bed (with some Chew-able Tylenol when needed). Day 4: Phased out the prescription pain meds and feeling much better. Weird gut feelings (I'm assuming are gas, but I don't really have a frame of reference). Day 5: Feeling pretty good starting to feel a little hungry. Bruising around the incision cites starting to develop. Day 6: Woke up to angry red stretchmarks starting to form, but otherwise feeling great. Went "grocery" shopping for more Jello and walked around my happy place (home depot). I I figured out how to make my protein taste better/less sweet, cut it with unflavored protein. (Thank you myprotein.com) Day 7: First day back to sleeping on my stomach and I finally feel rested again. Also discovered how amazing watered down chicken bullion cubes taste (like cup o noodles sans noodles). A little bit bummed that my appointment isn't till next week cause while I'm not hungry I would really like to start putting something with texture in my mouth. Down a total of 12 lbs since the surgery, but more importantly feeling like a normal person again.

    Fart ripping

Before I go into any store or a meeting, I always have to let my gas out. Otherwise I am the person in the Beano commercials that is sitting all awkwardly and twitching around in my seat. Gas has become a HUGE thing since my surgery. I follow all the rules too! No straws, no gum.... I honestly think some of it has to do with my CPAP, but then again I am gassy all day.

    Surgery Not Working??

So I am 10 weeks post-op and feel like I’m not losing like I should! I know everyone’s journey is different, but I feel like I’ve hit a wall and stopped losing. Month one was great! Month two...not bad. So far this month I keep losing and gaining the same 2 pounds! I do have PCOS, could the be contributing to the slower weight loss? I know if I don’t get all my protein in that could cause me to lose lean muscle, but can it cause the scale not to move? Am I eating all the wrong things? Am I eating too much? It seems as though once I was able to eat solids and started to go to the gym my weight loss has slowed. Has that happened to anyone? I know I shouldn’t be focusing on the scale but it’s very frustrating when it doesn’t move. I do take my measurements so I can see if there is a loss there. I just thought I should be farther a long. Should I just toss my scale? Im worried the surgery isn’t working right!! HELP! Thanks for letting me vent!!

    Surgery January 30, 2018 not losing😓

Also check your protein shakes. I watched a show and this girl was drinking high protein shakes, but didn't look at her caloric intake.

Sorry to hear about your pain situation. Have you been on pain meds long term? Ask a medical or dispensary professional...lol I would not know how pot is going to affect your weight loss surgery. After goal, I was in Washington State for a friends Birthday party. Let's just say edibles and a water pipe were involved. I get the munchies..But have to admit it was a great time.

From what I have seen, dinner plates are generally in the same size range. I think that the basic lesson here is that long term you will be able to eat about half in a meal of what you did before surgery, so don't count on only being able to eat 100g forever. Dr. Weiner's basic rule of thumb of eating about half the volume as previously is still restrictive enough to maintain good weight control if you develop the right habits, but leaves plenty of room for regain if you choose poorly. I think that this is part of the basis of his philosophy of eating a vegetable heavy diet, which is fairly bulky but also fairly low calorie, It's not the only way to go, but is a good approach.

    Disappointed

I am sure you are feeling frustrated because I know I surely would! Hopefully BCBS will accept the records and not require anything additional. I know my BCBS didn't have any specific requirements such as nutrition counseling but each policy is so different. Hang in there!

    Surgery on March 12th!

I am already a veteran of. 1 open abdominal incision, I have my Bari Bear just waiting, I bought him off Valentine Clearance at Wally World for $1.25 because I knew he had the right dimensions. No I didn't try him out in public on my belly, I just eye-balled him. Now to get my surgery, no further developements as yet. I arise every morning and then get more and more disappointed as the day goes on. I am impatient, it hasn't even been a full week yet. Yeah Rome wasn't built in a day but it would have been had I been in charge of the project! I go around singing " do they love me? I've got to know, if they don't please tell me so!" Yes I'm a tired old 60s song! I hope-a , I wanna I need it so! Yep there I go again, hope I don't go into my second childhood before I get to finish my current adulthood.
