Well, here it is...just a little more than 48 hours since my surgery. Yesterday afternoon was a little rough, my stomach hurt as if I did 50 sit ups and getting up and down was a chore. Finally dug out the heating pad and took an Aleve. Thas has really seemed to help. I only took the prescription pain meds the first day, then I switched to liquid tylenol. Gosh, those things taste AWFUL. Plus they didn't very good at relieving the pain; hence the Aleve. Feeling pretty perky except I think that darned anestesia (sp) is still hanging around in my system. Not quite up to normal speed yet. But, today will be my first outing. Our granddaughter turns 2 today so I just have to go to her party. But will be taking my protein drink and Greek yogurt. I am doing pretty well in not experiencing hunger yet. But I am sure that will kick in shortly. Well, it is back to work tomorrow morning at 0630. I just hope I feel twice as improved as I did today.

One of my best friends has moved from the DC area to here (Seattle area) this past week. She drove herself halfway across the country and I flew to Sioux Falls SD on Tuesday 8/16 to meet her and road trip with her the rest of the way. We drove about 550 miles each day and travelled through five states (South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and Washington). Of course, good food is always an integral part of a fun road trip, and we had our share of good food along the way. We had a couple of truly memorable meals (Silk Road for dinner in Missoula, MT, and Gordy's Sichuan Cafe for lunch in Spokane, WA), as well as a variety of munchies to nibble on during the long drives between stops. With long drives (very little exercise) and more food than I normally eat, needless to say I was not expecting to lose any weight -- particularly since I have again been in a several week long virtual weight loss stall. Yesterday was also a big eating out day -- my friend and I had lunch at a local Mexican restaurant, then met my mom a few hours later for afternoon tea (I had about half a scone and a little shortbread cookie, with some delicious peach-apricot tea), and then a few hours after that DH and I went out to a fantastic Vietnamese restaurant we'd never tried before and I had a variety of delicious bites. So, with all this eating out and road trip munching I've been doing, it was a really pleasant surprise to see I've lost .4 lbs. this week (nothing to brag about for sure, but to be lower than last week, with all the food, that was cool).
Of course I have been pondering the paradox of eating more and losing weight. I do think maybe when we are on such a generally low-cal diet, it's probably a good thing once in a while to increase the calorie uptake to shake up the body chemistry a bit. I am wondering if maybe my body is starting to really hoard fat .... I keep thinking to myself that the "easy" weight loss is over, and I really do have to work harder to lose every pound now. I was losing 8 lbs. a month like clockwork w/o exercising, but once I hit the five month mark my weight loss started really slowing down, and I've been exercising regularly (4 days a week) ever since June and still not losing 8 lbs. a month anymore. I do know that at my current height/weight/age/activity level my body needs about 2,000 calories a day to just to maintain, and even on my worst eating days ever I know I have not ever eaten that many calories. Most days I am eating around 1000 calories -- even yesterday, with all that food (and yesterday was a huge eating day for me) I am sure I didn't even get to 1,500 calories -- so it is a mystery why I am not losing more weight (should be losing 2 lbs. a week). It is something to ponder for sure.
I am exactly 30 lbs. from my goal weight now (I weigh 162 and my goal is 132). As I mentioned, my weight loss this month has been dismal. I still have 5 lbs. to lose for my Labor Day goal and am not so optimistic I will hit it. I am also 3 lbs. from having a BMI of under 30 and it seems like I will NEVER get there ... but I've been in this spot before, and eventually the weight does come off and then I'm onto the next goal.
I had a great walk this morning and am now headed out to the garden to work for an hour or so. I hope that when I check in here next week I will be able to say I am closer to my Labor Day goal!
ok, i am not a shy person at all, but as far as showing off my body in pictures, that just doesnt happen because i hate my fat body! however, when i was considering this surgery i was curious as to what the scars were going to look like and i couldnt find any body volunteering to show there fat tummy's .
anyways, i hope this doesnt gross anybody out, but i am going to post on my profile pictures of my incision sites at 4-5 days post op depending on how you count the days. my surgery was on aug 16th, and today is the 21st. i thought that i would show them as they heal so currious pre opers could kinda get an idea of what they should expect. mind you they are still healing, and brused. like i said, the belly aint pretty, but you dont have to look if you dont wanna . so go to my album on my profile if you want to see.
My first day and night at home was not that bad. I expected it to be worse. Only had to take pain RX 3 times, I don't like that it makes me sleepy, except when it IS bed time, then I like it. Woke up this morning and made breakfast for 2 of my grandkids. and I had my broth and juice. Everything seems to be going along swimmingly. Took a shower and removed the bandages...not too scarry. I feel good, have been walking around the house because it is just too hot to be going outside today. I am taking each day one at a time. Will keep you posted. so im at the end of day 4 post op and i feel a lot better. i have a lot more energy, a lot less pain and a lot more hope! i still have pain when i eat and i really havent been able to eat (really drink) much at all. i know that i havent gotten nearly enough water in, but im doing the best that i can. i have managed to eat a little split pea soup, without any of the chewable things in it. i only could get down about 4 teaspoons before i was totally full. popsicles are my friend, so is chicken broth. i cant wait to be totally healed.
as far as my incision sights, the doc only used steri strips, no stiches or staples. i dont know if that is common or not but i was plesantly surprized! i dont even think that anybody will be able to see the scars because i heal really well. the outside of the tummy doesnt hurt at all. the inside muscles are pretty soar still, but the lovely lortab is helping me through that.
swallowing my food is still really painful. still feels like a brick hitting my stomach. then my tummy makes flip flops and all sorts of noises and painfull twitches for about 2-3 minutes. after that i feel fine.
i have already lost more than 3 pounds since surgery and that is increadible! i weighed myself the day i got home from the hospital and i weighed more than when i left for the hospital, but that can be explained by all the iv fluids that they pumped inside of me. then the very next day (today) i weighed myself and i had lost all that weight plus the 3 pounds...happy happy joy joy....i have kinda moved back to clear liquids except for the split pea soup tonight because they feel better. hopefully in the next couple of days i can start to add in more of the full liquids again. i guess its true that i have a babys stomach again and i need to take baby steps. lol

As of recent I have been taking a lot of reality life problems. Its sad because before surgery I would cope different and now I am having to face the music. You know what I mean. I can't run to my fridge and I can't rely on friends like I use to. I am having to be alone in things and I feel horrible. I can't talk to anyone about what I am going through and have never felt so alone about too many things at once. I mean, I have personally gone thru hell and back. But I dealt with those issues differently. I think I might need more, perhaps therapy haha. I'd hate to do that all over again.
My husband will be doing things for work so I won't see him for a very long time. My sister is super sick. She might have Leukemia. Plus I have my own problems with raising my child without any family involment. If I haven't felt alone, I am feeling it now. And the worse part is no one has bother to see how I have been. I feel forgotten. I will return to this later, I am starting to get sleepy....
Tuesday had another fill. So far I feel like I need less food at a meal. I also get hungry between meals. I was hungry all the time before this so I didn't know when it was really time to eat. I hope this holds. I think I will start losing if it does. I lost 1 pound in the previous three weeks and I wasn't cheating. I was able to eat 1 to 1 1/2 cups of food and I was eating three to four times a day. Now I eat 1/2 cup at a meal and ususally only three times a day.

It has been almost 5 weeks since I was banded. I have had very good luck so far, besides a few foods that just do not agree with me. Tonight I was able to go to a restaurant and eat some grilled fish. I was very happy that the place had something I was able to eat. The only trouble I seem to have is having a full plate of food in front of me at one time. I have been thinking, maybe it would be a good idea to get a box when they first bring the food out, to ease temptations.
just hopped on this website a few days ago, didn't realize that it existed ! i'm looking to hear other people's stories about life after band my name is annemarie. i am 7 months and 9 days post op today i was banded on 1/10/11. since then, i have lost around 97 pounds. hoping to hit the big 100 soon ! i am finally NOT considered obese which is amazing ! i would just like to meet some new people on here and hear their stories and see their pictures to gain some inspiration/motivation. these last 30 pounds are killing me ! school is about to start on 8/29 and i am not looking forward to it /: i am also interested in talking to younger members with the band (since i am young myself, 20 years old), i would love to hear what their journey has been like hope everybody has been having a great day !
This one is going to be short and sweet. I feel good and hopeful. After my trip to the hospital and my band was loosened, gas started moving and I am doing so much better. Thank you Jesus! I am down 12 pounds and I am starting to get a mild appetite back. Thankfully once I drink something I am satisfied. After following LBT for the past 2 weeks, I find it amazing that so many people in the world have gone through the same things (in different ways) we dont know one another, yet we can all relate to one another. The best part is that somehow someway we all wound up here together to meet at the same time. If this was a different time and place in our life, just imagine how different our journeys may have been if we didnt have information and support at our fingertips. Sometimes its just the little things that make us just sit back and thank God because he has a divine way of doing things. The reason I know its God, it because there is no one or nothing else that could have brought be through what I have been through and yet I came out smiling. Thank you Jesus!
Well, here I am about 7 hours post-op. Had my surgery at 9 this morning, they woke me up around 9:40 or so, and was on the road to home by about 10:30. Had a long ride since I live about 70 miles from the hospital, but was not as bad as I thought it would it. Took some pain meds when I got home, took a alittle nap, and have been walking, walking, walking around the house since it is wayyyy to hot to be outside. Juice, water and tea has been doing down very well. I am pleasantly pleased. If this is the worst, I will count myself very lucky. Of course, the real test will be if I on hold of on not being hungry and keep p with the exercise. But I am determined since I didn't spend all this $$$ for nothing. Keep me in your toughts.
I have trouble believing what I read here. Fills during surgery or every two weeks or done by physician assistants. I don't get it. My doctor doesn't do a fill unless you are having trouble losing weight.
Then the things people report they are eating is amazing! BREAD? nuh-uh. Sauces or gravy?? No way. Rice, pasta and potatoes?? Don't you people want to lose weight?? I have stayed under 900 calories for 14 weeks. If I need to eat something during the day, I don't use protein shakes or power bars or anything that has more than 50 calories. Try eating the small sweet pepper (10 per) or pickles (zero) or eat a sugar-free jello (10) or drink some bouillon soup. (0) Get with the program, folks. This is your life. The lapband is only a tool that will allow your diet to succeed. The lapband is not a diet!

So I FINALLY made my way to the Bod Pod. Work has settled down and after working nearly an entire month on my Fridays off I got one to myself. Yahhh!!!
Anyway, I met some amazing outstanding folks at the Vacaville Golds Gym. They made me feel so welcomed, and geesh if I lived there that would definitely be my workout spot. More on that later, here are my results:

Lean: 64.7% 117.3 Lbs.
Total: 100% 181.3 Lbs. (I lost some weight yay!!)
How I measure up (per Bod Pod Composition Test Results Page):

My next goal is to get my total Body Fat to 29%. I am quite pleased by my results! I have come a long long way and to just be deemed as having excess fat now is quite the achievement. However I'm also glad I finally got myself to this appointment so now I know for sure I still have some work to do, and well that's exactly what I'm going to do.
The trainer who helped me, Michele was so nice! We went over a few things as soon as my tests were complete. I asked her what she thought I could do to reduce the body fat while trying not to lose so much lean tissue. Wow!! And I have to say I'm quite impressed with how heavy my lean tissue is! So my thoughts were correct that I am a "heavy girl". 117 Lbs of me is all muscle, bones and organs. Not sure how I compare to anyone else who is 5'7 but I really thought it could be more around 100 Lbs of lean tissues. Not only that, per their scale (which was midday almost at that) weighed me in at more than 1.5 Lbs less!! Yippeee!!!
Anyway, we were talking and I was describing my workout routines for her. Her eyes literally bugged out of her skull and she exclaimed that I do far more than most. That's funny because I always feel like I can do more. She said my workout routine is excellent. The only things she suggested I can do is do at least a little bit of weight training 2x per week. She said that is quite enough, and if I'm up to it, perhaps taking some swimming lessons. She said that burns enormous amounts of fat and will get me lean, no problem. Then we met with the Swim trainer, who has had RnY by the way 4 years ago. She was incredibly nice! Once I'm healed from my procedures I plan to have a few swimming lessons with her to get me to learn it properly.
So with that, I move onward and downward. I imagine a lot of fat is going to be removed with my liposuctions. I hope 6% worth!! :lol:
