Compression Garment During WLoss Minimize Loose Skin?

Recommended Posts

Hi All... Just wondering if anyone has used a compression garment during weight loss? I"m wondering if it might aid in minimizing loose skin during the process.

I go to my MD on the 22nd and with his blessing plan to wear one during the entire wl process. Maybe no miracles, just hoping it will help. Besides, many of them make your clothes fit better and you look much slimmer too, The boost in self confidence and appearance cant hurt!

All my life Ive worn a bra even to bed. I must say though Im a size 20, the girls have always looked great. No stretchmarks and still sittin pretty high! I wont be wearing the compression garment to bed tho  Anyway let me know if anyone has tried this? Ill keep you posted as to any success. If it doesnt work Ill have plenty of garments when I have ps lol.

I haven't tried it yet but during my last support group meeting my surgeon happened to be there dropping by on her way to a meeting and I asked her specifically if it would be ok to wear one and she said yes. I have a little bulge in the middle that is sticking around right now and bugging me like crazy. She told me it would be the last thing to go and it would take awhile. In the meantime, I think I am going to try one and see how it looks and how I feel about it.

I wear the Spanks, that Oprah rave's about. It shapes you and hold everything in nicely. It makes you look much slimmer and body smooth, no bluges. I even wear them and work out in them. I have the one that comes up to your bra lines and goes down to my calves. It will definitely hold you in. Go ahead and try them, they are great. A boost to your confidence will surely help.

It's not going to do anything to change your dna as far as excess skin once the fat is gone.. But like the others says they are great for holding you in - I wore them when obese - hated my back fat - now weare them due the skin issues - not to bad considering my age - saggy skin is to be expected :0) -

I'm not going to have the body of a 20 yrs old after being obese for the majority of my life - but heck I will take the saggy skin over the fat any day - the saggy skin isn't going to kill me - but the fat was going to :0)

Good luck on your journey

Its not going to do any harm, but the hard truth is that the damage is ALREADY done to your skin. Its done when your weight is on the way up, not now when its on the way down. There is nothing you can do to prevent what has already happened, its just that you have to lose the weight to see the damage.

compression garments after surgery reduce bleeding and swelling and help healing that way, but they can do nothing to make overstretched skin contract.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
