Need ideas on food, etc. What are you eating?

Recommended Posts

What kind of things are you eating, or were eating, when you were on liquids and then mushies.

And then once you started real food what were you eating?

I am worried I won't lose weight. I don't know why I am thinking like this.

I am eating right now things like liquid yogurt, cream Soups strained, sugar free popsicles, and lots of Water.< /p>

I have not lost anything since my surgery Wed. In fact, I've gained five pounds! ACK! Maybe it's water weight gain from the IV fluids??

Anyone else gain weight right after surgery?

Help with ideas please!

Well, I know that in the beginning you should be focusing on healing your stomach, not losing weight. In fact, once you go from liquids/mushies to regular food, you are definitely going to gain weight. Right now your concern should be getting in calories and healing your stomach. Once you are eating regular foods and can do some regular exercise, that's when you should be concerned about weight loss.

In fact, once you go from liquids/mushies to regular food, you are definitely going to gain weight.

Actually that won't happen because I will be able to lowcarb better when I am eating normal foods. This liquids make it so I have to get more carbs than I want. You know what I mean?

Thanks for the advice. You are right, I need to focus on healing right now.

I guess I won't get a fill for about a month according to others on here. So that means once I go to regular food I can eat like normal? If so that means Christmas day I can eat normal food because I will be on normal stuff by then?

Just keep on the Soups and Protein Shakes. smoothies work great too. I had surgery on 10/30 and had the same fears you did. I am now down 23 lbs and feeling great. When you start on "real" food, just take it slow, chew, chew, chew and eat your Protein 1st and stay away from breads. You may like them, but they won't like you :0)

I stayed low carb on liquids and mushies. I put meat, chicken, tuna, eggs, etc in the blender and thinned them if needed with chicken stock. I used a low carb Protein Shake some, but did not like it. I got low carb Protein liquid drinks also. I did use the cream Soup but only one cup of the lowest carb one I could find and then melted some cheese in it to boost the protein. If you limit your meals to one cup of liquid and drink lots of Water you will lose very well on liquids and mushies. For mushies, I ate avacado, spinach, and soft boiled eggs. I still used the blender but did not thin stuff so much. I stayed away from yogurt because of the carbs. I lost 9 1/2 lbs in my first week post op. I think we get too caught up in the whole carb thing because of the liquid and mushie deal. If you think about it, you can find ways to do it. I had to because of diabetes so I found ways to do it. It also helps with the hunger during "Bandster Hell" Best of luck!!!

Yeah, the carb thing makes sense. I was thinking the more-calories-in thing. And yes, you will lose restriction probably before you get a fill and will be able to eat normally.

Your user name looks familiar- are you the one who was replying on the post about the chic on medicaid wanting to gain wait to get the surgery? Awesome...

I gained four pounds in fluids so 5 lbs wouldn't be an unreasonable amount of weight. That will come back off I can't remember how quickly it came off though.

Swangal, I for one am very sensitive to sodium intake. For instance, last Wed I was 165 when I weighed in the am (I am very short, so still 65 lbs overweight) Then the next day I had gained 2 lbs, and there is no way I ate 7000 calories LOL... It was because I had about 4000mg of sodium (2 big cans of Soup throughout the day) My caloric intake was still at 1000 or less.

So I suggest to try some low sodium Soups or more no-cal drinks & Jello & popsicles.

Good luck and yes, please concentrate on healing first!

Thanks it's probably Water weight like from the sodium. My fingers are swelled a little I can tell with my rings so I will try and cut back on the salt. Thanks everyone.

Hi! I didn't gain but I did not loose weight the days I was on liquid. I think your body panics and is affraid it needs the fat to live off of! Once I went to mushie food, I started seeing the scale go down!

As far as what I'm eating, I made meatloaf and mashed potatos one night, chili another night and I have baked potato Soup in the crock pot now. I have also had refried Beans with hamburger meat and cheese on it. I have had eggs and yogurt.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
