old bandster looking for support, direction, advice

Recommended Posts

I am on Year 2 of my longer journey too because I want to lose a total of 200 lbs - at -125 now and coming up on my 2nd bandiversary on March 17 - about a month now. By my 3 year anniversary, I am trying to be in Onederland for sure but I'd like to try to lose 1 lb per week approximately in 2010. Lost 3.4 in January so I am very happy with that. I was still dealing with work stress things that have dramatically improved since mid-January now.

I am going to the gym at work and also the gym after work when I don't go in the day at work. Trying to do something each day. Sunday and friend and I did mall walking and that was fun - we not only did the upper level and lower level mall but we zipped in and out of all the big anchor stores like Sears, Penney, Macy, etc. so we got to do some window shopping while we did our exercise! An hour passed pretty quick doing that.

P.S. I did birthday celebration splurging on food so that is not a good thing to confess - clearly I still have a problem with food and have to continue to be diligent.

Well my birthday is coming up soon and I vote we get to splurge a little. We're not dead, we're just trying to make the right choices 99% of the time. :) Happy Birthday!

I head back to my fill doctor tomorrow. Haven't been there in a over a year. I don't even remember what I weighed when I last went. I think i was sent a letter to come in and they wanted some lab work done. Ooops! Took me a while and I've lost the lab slip. Wonder if he'll still give me a cc? I'm not even sure if I want one. Why does all the healthy food seem to get so stuck? I'm doing well right now without a fill. I don't have a lot of restriction, but I do have some. I should just go for it. If it's too much, i can always get some taken out. right?

Ok, I'm back looking for more support. No activity in a while. How are we all doing? I'm chugging along, but not really making much progress.

I got a fill last month. I extended my schedule of getting back to regular foods in the hopes of breaking some bad habits. In other words, instead of 1 day of liquids, one of mushy, etc, I did a couple days of each step. I told myself all along that this fill would be the perfect one for me and by the time I got to regular food I would be very satisfied with 1/2C of food. I was, believe it or not!

I lost 4# the first week (not unusual for me as I tend to hold Water weight and drop quickly when I cut back a lot). Then the 2nd week, was still eating the same and lost nothing. Again, not unusual for me as I tend to do that too - my body takes a bit to catch up to the week before.

My problem is that the week with no loss even though I was eating tiny amounts of good food wreaks havoc on my motivation. It shouldn't, I know this, but it does. So I susconsciously started letting myself eat a little more, a "bite of something sweet" after a meal, etc. So therefore I haven't lost any more since. I've also had trouble getting back into the groove of working out at Curves. I used to really enjoy it, now I'm struggling to want to go.

I guess I'm just looking for some moral support, to know I'm not alone on this journey, and a little pep talk/kick in the pants - whatever you feel like dishing out, I'm ready for it. :-)

I'll do the same for you!

Lisa

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
