Oh, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better - I really didn't expect it to be this soon, to be honest, so that is a nice suprise!

Congratulations on your 18lb loss already! That's great!!

So yes, I do have quite a few questions... Feel free to not answer all if you're not comfortable.

Did you stay overnight at the hospital?

Was Dr. Geiss able to make you feel comfortable before you went under?

Have you "slimed" or "pb" yet?

Are you uncomfortable all of the time? Is it due to the swelling or can you actually feel the band/port?

How has your digestive tract been handeling this change? Constipation? Diarrhea? Normal?

Are you feeling very weak? Are you able to walk around somewhat easily? Can you drive? Have you gone back to work?

Was it done laproscopically?

What is the followup regimen that Dr. Geiss has implimented?

I suppose that is all for now. I'm really just extremely happy that you are OK and that things seem to be going well for you. If there is anything you need, please let me know. :)

Wow, you should be a reporter :scared2:

Did you stay overnight at the hospital?

Yes I stayed overnight, everyone does, they call it a "23 hour stay" ant honestly, I was in no shape to come home

Was Dr. Geiss able to make you feel comfortable before you went under?

Yes, Yes, Yes he was wonderful and so was HIS STAFF (june and Marian were AWESOME)

Have you "slimed" or "pb" yet?

I must be old, I have no idea what that means

Are you uncomfortable all of the time?

Not all of the time, the first few days I took ALOT of pain medication but now just a few tyenol and I am ok.

Is it due to the swelling or can you actually feel the band/port?

Its Uncomfortable because in day to day life you use your upper body alot. Cant feel the band...and I am think i know where the port is...haha I dont want to press to hard to find out (i'm scared)

How has your digestive tract been handeling this change?

Digestive System has been fine due to the fact that I did not liquid diet a week before surgery

Constipation? Diarrhea? Normal?

Not Really

Are you feeling very weak?

Just the first few days I was tired

Are you able to walk around somewhat easily?

Yes, The first few days were rough. I was loosing my breath and it was hard to sit up from a laying down position but now I am ok, Still sore and black and blue a week out but ok.

Can you drive?

I started driving on monday

Have you gone back to work?

I went back to work on monday, did 8 hours and then came home and slept. It has been getting easier everyday.

Was it done laproscopically?

Yes, It sure was

What is the followup regimen that Dr. Geiss has implimented?

I will find this out on the 16th I guess when I go back to get my stiches out

So...I hope that answered some questions for you. Here is my summary...

It was a little more painful then I expected, but it was sure worth it. I was with four other woman who had the same thing done and we were all at different pain levels. If I had to do everything all over again I would because the results I am starting to see already are amazing...and this is only the beginning...Amanda

Hi AJnbily - Amanda: Glad to hear you are feeling better and thank you for your honest replies to some questions. I guess you realize we are all frightened of the unknown. Doing this is "elective" surgery and the final decision is ours alone -- so its a hard decision for all of us. You seem to be doing good and the weight loss is great -- 21 lbs. I hope each day you feel better and better. What are you allowed to eat at this point since you are about 1 1/2 weeks post op. How hard is it to stick to the diet. What does Dr. Geiss tell you you can have post op. Do you feel like eating? I know it was more painful than you anticipated - did they give you pain meds right away in the hospital? Did you come home taking pain meds? Was tylenol enough? Can you swallow pills easily or do you have to crush them? Sorry for so many silly questions but my mind is wandering about this surgery. Will try to get to the "first" Tuesday seminar at the Ritz in early January. Could not make the one in December.

Hope to see some of you there. Chris (cat lady)

Worked out for you - the "first" meeting in December was canceled due to "unforseen circumstances" - so you didn't miss anything! :rolleyes2:

I'm already registered for the Jan 10 meeting - but my initial consult with Dr. Geiss is on 12/22/09 - so I will be meeting him beforehand.

I can hardly wait!!

PS - RE: the liquid diet - I've done it before for 6 months. The first 3 days or so are hell (think detoxing) but after that it's pretty much just routine. I have no doubts youll be able to get through a few weeks, especially while you see the numbers on the scale going down down downnnnn!!

Hi MichelleClaire: Sorry the meeting didn't work out. Please check the dates because every time I ask -- at Dr. Geiss' office they tell me its the first Tuesday of each month at the Ritz across from Syosset Hospital. I think the first Tuesday would be January 5th. Are we talking about the same seminar with Dr. Geiss as a speaker there. I went to one in November (first Tuesday of the month)and Dr. Geiss was not there. Another Dr. spoke and a patient told his story. It was very informative. I do want to go again in January.

Hey michelle, sorry for the late response.....I started at 250, 235 day of surgery and currently 220. I'm going to Dr. Geiss office today for a fill and weigh-in. Thankfully enough my insurance didn't require a 6 month diet.....my consult was on 6/26 and my original date was 9/21, but my pcp didn't clear me in time, so it was moved to 10/7 due to a cancellation. The process takes how long as you want it. Before my consult, I had already scheduled most of my appointments with the cardio, pul, nut and psy. I was able to get have the sils procedure so I have a small incision at my belly button looks like a smiley face. Its learning how to eat. My aim is qnzdimelady718 if you want to know more. Good luck :-)

I am so proud of you!!

Make sure you update your ticker - it still only says 21lbs - EVERY pound counts!!

I can't wait to be following in your footsteps...

This is my last week of the semester, so I am going to start calling and making appointments for the specialists I need to meet with, hopefully have that information in-hand before I visit with Dr. Geiss on 12/22.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
