3 days out and FRUSTRATED!

Recommended Posts

so monday was my surgery. i am on 3 days and feeling the affects of not being able to eat. today i feel very weak. i tried doing some housework and just couldn't do much at all. i was able to get in some Protein Shake this morning for Breakfast.. thank god. but my mouth is sooooo dry. i can tell i might be dehydrating. not good. its so hard for me to drink Water without gulping. i am very discouraged at this point. i am a quick healer.. and i feel like i should have been feeling better by now. my back is achy, my incision hurts, still so tired, and can't eat anything. i'm very gassy.. i keep burping like crazy. last night i decided i needed to get in my Vitamins.. so i chewed and chewed on Gummy vitamins.. well that didn't sit well either. what will sit well??? when am i going to be able to enjoy eating food? i just want a little bit. i'm barely even hungry.. i just dont want to feel like i am depriving my body. someone please give me some advise..

thanks.

try strained canned cream Soups. Also if you cook, you can make thngs like bean Soup, vegetable soup and drink the broth, You can do sugar free Jello and sugar free puddings. Just let the jello melt a bit before swallowing. Keep up with your protien shakes as the protien will help curb your hunger. This stage, the pureed stage, the fork mashed stage won't last forever. Just remember that and when you start to get your fills that will make all the difference in the world.

I had surgery on the same day!!!

I have passed a lot of gas, and burps getting the swelling down too. As to thirst, i sip all day, Water, crystal light, benefiber powder, Protein shakes etc.. If you need to enjoy food at this point, I think you must be having head hunger where your brain wants you to revert to old habits. Do you have support? Someone to talk to about this? I find that reading success stories here takes my mind in the right direction. I also find that watching TV with commercials directs me towards head hunger cause of all the food commercials.

I switched to movies, talk to my support, and read successes to imagine my future.

Drink liquids, don't try to do to much, and stay distracted from food.

Good luck to you!!!

TJ

Ok so, three days ago you had surgery and you wonder why you don't feel up to cleaning you house? LOL. Lap band surgery is still major surgery. The medications they use to put you under general anesthsia can linger in your body for weeks. You should be resting at this point and focussing on taking frequest sips. It took me about a week to feel up to doing pretty much anything. Relax and heal:) You will enjoy food again, but it will take a while. Your body needs to heal, and pushing it with foods, or doing anything too strenuous will only hurt you later on. Good luck.

Dehydration could be the main cause of your weakness. Drink, even if it is just sips. To rehydrate you need more than Water, you need some electolytes. Gatorade is usually recommended for that. Don't worry too much about the sugar at this point.

I expected to be weak, because of a previous less major surgery I had that left me very weak, but I had the start of a cold at the time, so it was probably the combination. After my lap-band surgery and during the liquid diet I was surprised at not feeling weak.

Drink and hang in there.

Hang in there. I am one week out since surgery and I still tire easier. I am sleeping more. I have to sit down between tasks around the house and rest awhile. Allow yourself to do this. No shame in it. You are doing some major healing right now.

thank you for all your responses.. you all make a lot of sense. i do tend to over do things. so i have been resting in between doing things here and there. i managed to eat some stage 1 beef baby food. (i did have to add salt) but i feel better now that i ate that.. i have been sipping on Water all day long. i am determined to get over this and start managing my band the proper way. i just sometimes cannot help getting down about the changes every now and then. but i'm working on it. 9 lbs down in 4 days helps keep my mind on the right track..

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
