Water tricks needed....

Recommended Posts

I have hit a plateau and know I need to increase my Water intake, but do not have a natural love of Water, but love iced tea with splenda and flavored fruit waters, but still struggle to get in over 66 oz per day, I need about double this amount but fail to accomplish this daily. I know it would probably help me pass this plateau I am on. Got any ideas on how to include more of it daily? Schedule you go by for water intake? Rewards for getting in certain amount etc.?

Sounds silly but I need help on this one. thanks for any info.

I have the same problem with Water. The only thing I know is that when you drink water with a straw it does go faster but then you have to deal with the air you suck in with it! I will go to Sonic and get a Route 44 cup of ice and munch on that during the day, that could be one way for you. You can make your own homemade popsicles with sugar-free Kool-Aid. I also drink hot tea during the day with Splenda and I count that as a water. I have been told that iced tea with Splenda can count as a water. So if you drink the tea, count it as a water but still get the regular water in. Also, try making your own lemonade with fresh lemons and Splenda...yum! The lemon is good for you too! Hope this helps!

Brenda, for every 8 oz glass of tea I drink I have to drink 8 oz of Water and that has helped me increase my water intake. I know that it is hard...I have to really concentrate to get my water in. I also drink a 16 oz water on my way to work and on my way home. That way no matter what I know I have 32 oz down. It is easy, because I am in the car and it is easy to reach for my bottle.

I use my Watkins extracts in Water to give it different flavors, without adding any sugar, calories, or fake sweeteners to it.

I'm sitting here sipping on a glass of Water with some strawberry extract in it as we speak!

The exracts are $4 and some odd cents/bottle, and last quite a while because I'm only using a little in each glass. Plus it tints the water a cool color too so it looks pretty. LOL

WOW Brenda....... you have lost 132 pounds.....WOW I am in awwwww. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Water is so important to not only your weight lost but for your organs to function properly and most importantly for your beautiful skin. Water does amazing things for your eyes, skin, hair and body odors. LOL Keep water with you all the time and by mid day count how much you have had and work on the rest of your 64oz. I bring a big bottle to work everyday and I know that is 5 cups so when I get home I only need another 3 and I drink that fast anyhow.

Like everyone said try some flavored waters without the sugar, some are really good.

Thanks to all of your for yoru good Water advice and tricks. I like the idea of chewing on ice too, gives the illusion of eating something when your really not! ha ha.

I went out in search of some flavored water and I had found some 33 oz bottles of flavored distilled Water sweetened with splenda at Ingles Grocery store here and love the cherry limeade and peach one. They had about 5 flavors in all, but I had tried these two before and got them. I looked like a water "sot", my buggy was full of 12 bottles of water! But they were only 88 cents each not bad for 33 oz bottle huh?

Teresa - thanks for your complimentsm you have done great too with your wt loss, keep up the good work and thanks for the info about how good water is for me. My skin needs all the help it can get!

Thanks for all your advice. I will take it and use it! Maybe between the extra water intake, extra exercise and your advice and support, I can push through my plateau and get the scales moving again.

From what I hear lately and read, it's liquid that counts, regardless of what it is, with the exception of sodas and calorie wasted liquids. Meaning, tea, lemonade, crystal lite, (which is what I add to my bottled water), coffee, etc. All in moderation I'm sure. When I'm in a restaurant, I put a 1/2 packet of swtnlow or splenda in my Water with a squeeze of lemon, then after I finish my meal, I ask for a to go cup and take it with me for later, mmmmm.

I am allergic to the Phenylalanine that is in all of the drinks. I get that Minute Maid concentrated lemon juice (found frozen in with the juices) and put in two or three squirts, then add splenda and I really love it.

But like you I am struggling all of the time to drink enough and never make it. I am still trying.

I actually quit lurking and registered just so I could reply to this thread. I'm at the very beginning of the investigative process, so I'm learning a lot, but wanted to share something that works for me.

I buy spring Water in the 16 oz bottles, by the cases. I have baskets or cubbies all over the house and disperse a case as soon as I get home. There are bottles EVERYWHERE.

  • By the computer
  • Under every end table and night stand
  • On the magazine stand next to the toidy ;-)
  • At my work table
  • On top of the dryer

Basically anywhere in the house that I MIGHT be standing or sitting when the first flicker of hunger or thirst hits me. I grab a bottle and toss off 1/3 to 1/2. Then leave the bottle sitting there. My family knows to hold on to their's, only mom can leave recapped bottles "out". :)

I used to struggle and fight to get down 1 to 2 bottles of Water per day. After I started doing this, I can effortlessly empty 3 or 4 without even thinking about it.

Have a good day. I'm off to my first Lap Band Seminar and 1-on-1.

Renan

Kelly,

how about the sodium content in those little flavors? Is there one? If not, I may hit your watkins page!

For those of you that can get to a Aldi's I recommend that you buy the Fit & Active powdered drinks. They are sugar free, calorie free, caffiene free, and sodium free! They have several flavors, ice tea, lemonade and fruit punch! They are all great. This is what I drink all day besides my morning and afternoon coffee. The price is only $1.69. It comes with 6 packs of powder and makes 2 quarts at a time.

Paula,

No sodium, sugar, or sugar substitute what-so-ever! And as a matter of fact, since each extract is made with different ingredients(not much of a difference, but some) you can click on the "view product ingredients" link to see EXACTLY what is in each one.

Hope this helps girl! Feel free to ask any other questions anytime!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
