3 days out of hospital, nausea and gas.

Recommended Posts

I have been out of hosptal for three days and carefully following the surgeons liquid only instructions.

I have a little pain but it is quite bareable and not such a big deal. Its the nausea that is driving me crazy and making me feel like i cant be myself. It comes and goes and i am taking the anti nausea meds but they dont seem to be stopping me from feeling ill.

I cant burp and so am full of gas and feeling terrible, wish i could make that go away.

If anyone has some suggestions or some words of comfort i would really appreciate any help at all. I know i made the right decision but its hard to focus on the future when i feel so ill.

are you walking and taking gas x strips? I also used a heating pad and it helped me fart.< /p>

also if your anti nausea meds arent working ask the doc if there is a different one or stronger one you can take

I am having some similar issues, we'll get through it!! At least you got some anti nausea meds! I only have pain killers, I hope you start to feel better!

Try the Gas-X strips. And this might sound strange but sit down and rock back and forth. It helped me to get rid of the gas. And try and walk as much as possible. And yes the heating pad works also. That does help.

It seems very hard right now. And I'm sure your asking yourself "WHY did I do this?" But I assure you that in a few more days you will feel better. Take it one day at a time. I am 4 weeks in and I don't even feel like I had the surgery. Although I'm a tiny bit hungry at times it's not really that bad.

Hang in there. You will see the light at the end of the tunnel in no time.

By the way CONGRATULATIONS!! Welcome to the losers bench.

Which meds are you on? Certain drugs work better for some people, and it may take a few tries to get one that works for you! Definitely call your surgeon and ask if there is something else you can try!

This too shall pass!

Today is my second post op day. Just a little pain, but the GAS!.

I found walking helps but also if I lay flat out on the bed and bend my knees. It helps you to fart. If you sit too much with your body been up the gas cant find a way out ( hope this helps). My only other problem is I am so tired of sweet tasting liquids. Two weeks of Clear Liquids wouldn't go quick enough for me. I think I will try Water with lemon.

Walking helps the gas, so does the Gas-X strips. Read the box instructions carefully. If you can put yourself in the knee-chest position w/o too much pain on the incisions, it will really help with the gas. We would put our post-op patients in this position when they were having so much gas. Hope you're better soon.

Thanks everyone. I havn't been able to get GasX strips, i dont know if they are available in australia. I am taking DeGas tabs and they are helping.. il try the different positions to release gas.. i expect that it will give me a little port pain but thats not a big deal :-) I must say that i am feeling MUCH MUCH better today and encouraged to hear that it will get better over the next week. I am very much looking forward to the the two week mark, mushies and a lot less pain :-) Not long now!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
