Welcome to site. I only discovered it after banding wish I had known about it before as I think I would have asked better questions and been a lot more informed. I felt the info I received glossed over some of the finer details of living with the band. Also I think they made it sound a bit too easy which it defintely is not....you have to work with it and constantly adjust. I had my surgery in March at the age of 51 and felt I sailed through the surgery. I felt I could have gone home after leaving recovery and didnt feel I needed to stay overnight for medical reasons ( although it was good to stay and be looked after and pampered a bit which doesnt happen at home) So I dont think the age thing is too much of an issue as long as you are reasonably healthy which you may not be at any age age...so as long as your health is fairly Ok you should be right.

Cheers

M

I am 57 years old, had the band on July 29, 2009. As of today I am down 49 lbs! I feel great, joined the Gym and really moving now. Getting all sorts of compliments too. I would do it all over again tomorrow, no regrets. It is something you will live with the rest of your life, and your life will be longer due to the weight loss. Don't be afraid, do it for LIFE! If you can get use to heartburn, swelled feet and ankles, taking meds for everything related to being overweight, you can get use to being thin, with the band and love it.

:) Hello there. I have been reading this site's postings for a couple of weeks now and it really has been a help. I keep a notebook close,so when I read something I want to remember, check out or ask about I write it down. I am scheduled for surgery on 12/9. I am a little nervous about it, but not too much. I am in my late 50's. I have been using Jenny Craig and have lost 31 pounds so far. After speaking to my Dr's office I can continue to use that until surgery (just required to go to 1000 or 1100 calories for two weeks before surgery).

Well good luck to you and I hope all will go well for you.

Pam :bored:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
