Anyone else supposed to go to the psychologist again after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 10/21/2009. I am scheduled to go to the psychologist again this Friday. I'm wondering if anyone else was scheduled to go to the psychologist again post-op. I really don't feel like I need to go or that I'll gain anything by going. I only agreed to scheduling the appointment so that they wouldn't deny me surgery. Now that I've had surgery I want to stop going. I'm not depressed or on any depression medication and I'm not sure why they want me to go back. Is it because they think I will benefit from it? Or because they want more money from an "easy sell"? Any advice?

Mizmo,

I have to say, I went to the pre-op appointments that were required and didn't mind. Although I wasn't required to go after surgery, it was HIGHLY encouraged that I attend support groups afterward. I will have my 2 year bandaversary tomorrow, and I went to the support groups for the first year. I didn't think it would be necessary, but I realized that there are a lot of issues that come up with this. I was glad I went!!! I recommend it. About 8 months out, I had a lot of issues where I could have used a private psychologist, and I didn't go. In retrospect, I should have gone. I had issues with my face rapidly aging with the loss. I also had some very severe issues with my husbands new response to me. He was actually interested in me again, and I was quite surprised by my bitter resentment. I'm passed that now, but really could have used some help initially. Don't rule it out. You'll be going through a LOT of rapid changes, and sometimes your mind just doesn't keep up with it. It happens so fast. Relationships change. Your social life changes. Your image in the mirror changes. Your self esteem changes. Your interest in things and activities change. Sex changes. It's staggering at times. Just be hyper aware of your mental health, and do what is necessary. Don't second guess or put it off. It will make it easier.

Aubrie,

Thanks for your encouraging words. I'm going to go ahead and go and see what we end up talking about.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
