New Year 2010 Challenge!

Recommended Posts

I'm just checking in on the new year challenge. How are we all doing? So far I'm down 4 lbs. I'm almost afraid to count the last pound, but that is what the scale said this morning, so I'm counting it ! I usually wait for a couple days to make sure that pound is really gone.

I hope Thanksgiving went well for everyone! Now lets see if we can win this challenge and be at our new year goal by 1-1-2010 !

Hi all,

WOW! We are all too busy! No posts since 11/28. What happened to us?? My weight loss has really slowed down but I am still headed generally in the right direction. I haven't given up on my goal but with 16 or 17 days left I don't know if I will get 4 more pounds off. I will never give up!!!

I still can't exercise due to my foot injury. I should be able to start slowly again in January. YEAH! Oddly enough, I really miss it!

Let's do this! I will be 42 on Saturday and I want to be at final goal by my 43rd birthday so I need help staying on track!:willy_nilly:

well, there is no way I will reach onederland by newyears eve, but I'm still keeping my head in it. I had a little stall in the weight loss the past 2 weeks, but the scale is my friend again today.

My biggest problem at this point is Hair loss. I've tried everything. I do mean everything! I have thin, fine hair anyway and can't afford any more loss! bummed about that:crying:

Hummingbird, your hair loss is probably still post-surgical stress related. Get all your Protein, maybe add some Biotin supplements, and try not to worry about it (I know, easier said than done!) I lost a great deal of hair for a while, then it slowed down. I'm 16 months out from my surgery and am still losing hair, but it seems to be growing back, too.

I'm kind of disgusted with myself right now. I've been letting my head take control of my eating, rather than my hunger. I haven't been to Curves in about a month - and that's after going religiously 3-5 days a week for a year. However, I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. I have an appointment with Dr. Bonnor on Wednesday, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to ask for a fill. I'd like to be a little tighter, just to kind of kick start me back into the proper mind-set. I need a serious sugar/carbs de-tox (damn you Starbucks for your comforting seasonal Hot drinks and Cranberry Bliss Bars!!!! lol)

Keep it up everyone, even if you give in for a little while, never give up!!

I have been taking Biotin for over 3 months now. I keep my Protein up by drinking Protein Shakes and shots. I also started using nioxin Shampoo and conditioner. This past weekend I got some nioxin Vitamins. I take silica that says it is for hair, skin and nails. I take Centrum chewables and B complex.

I have had much more major surgeries than this and never lost a strand of hair with those surgeries, so I can't imagine it's from the surgery or anesthesia. I was banded 07/09/09. That is a long time ago for the surgery part to still effect me isn't it?

I don't know what the solution will be. I will just keep trying, but am frustraited and feeling my self esteem taking a big nose dive as my hair gets thinner and thinner.

Humming bird, the hair loss can also be related to hormonal changes that occur with weight loss. It's frustrating, I know, but I think a lot of people report that the loss stops between 3 and 6 months, and regrowth begins. Stressing about it can make it worse, so you get a vicious cycle going.

I did get a fill on Wednesday. Dr. Bonnor put in 1 whole cc, bringing me up to 3.1 in a 4cc band. I was a little worried about adding so much, but I made sure he was going to be around if I experienced any problems. So far, so good. I haven't had any trouble with liquids, but I can tell that I am tighter. I'm doing a juice detox today, and I think I'll try to continue on liquids for a week, just to get back in control. I'm hoping for a good loss by tomorrow!

Thank you for your support on this hairloss issue that has really been bothering me. I read your reply and thought, she's right, I need to stop stressing about it so much or I will just make it worse.

But I have to tell you what happened several hours after that ..........

I took a shower this morning and used my nioxin Shampoo, then I thought I better use a little clarifying shampoo to get the hairspray from the week out of my hair, then I used the nioxin conditioner. I used a blow dryer to dry my hair.........

I gave my grandson a ride to school. I came back home and went in my bathroom. There was a very large section of hair laying on my bathroom rug. I thought OMG! and bent down to take a closer look. OMG! it was my hair for sure! It was about 3" long and it looked like someone has taken a section of my hair in their hand and just cut it off. I picked it up and one end of it was all melted and smelled like someone has set it on fire! I started looking at the hair on my head and lifting up sections. Sure enough, there is a section on the right side of my head where the hair came from. The hair there is about 1/2" long now and looked burned. I had to have done this with the blow dryer. I don't even have a super hot dryer, it's just a cheapy from Walmart. The hair that was on the rug really looked like actual flames were involved !

I am really trying not to stress about it, but this little incident did not help !!!

Wow hummingbird, that does sound kind of scary! I think I'd be letting my hair dry naturally after that! lol

I did get my fill on Wednesday. Dr. Bonnor put in another whole 1cc, for a total of 3.1 cc in a 4 cc band. I was shocked! I made sure he wasn't going to be going on vacation anytime soon, in case it turned out to be too tight. But I haven't had any trouble with it. I did liquids for two days. In fact, yesterday I did a fat-flushing juice fast. I was 223 on Wednesday before the fill, 220 on Thursday morning after a day of liquids, and 216.2 today after the juice fast. Needless to say, I'm happy with those results! I carefully added regular foods back today - some chicken and tuna salad, a slice of deli roast beef wrapped in a slice of provolone, and 3/4 cup of homemade chili. I didn't have any trouble eating them, but I definitely felt full on the small portions. So, here's to a fresh start!

I have to say AMEN to the Starbucks comment. My students know I love Hot Drinks especially coffee so I got several gift cards and I have already spent them all! Those cranberry bliss bars are amazing. I only let myself have one if several of us are going to split it.

The scales have not been my friend but as most of you know. I don't record when I am going the wrong direction. It will turn around soon!

Hummingbird, I have the same problem with fine hair and Hair loss. Thank goodness my hair is curlly so it looks like I have more than I do. My doctors both said that the loss is more due to lack of calories than anything. I found the MyDailyPlate on the LiveStrong website really helps me keep track of eating and eating healthy without too much sugar and carbs. Just a thought! Also, the other post earlier that said it gets better the further you get from surgery was right. It has gotten better. I do take a hair, nail, skin Vitamin like you mentioned as well.

Here we are, Jan. 1, 2010. I did not reach onderland yet, but will see it sometime this month. I don't feel bad about it because I took off 11 pounds during the holidays and that is a great thing!

That's excellent Hummingbird! I pretty much lost all control and went crazy for White chocolate Peppermint Mochas, but that is behind me now. I'm shooting for a good loss by my 45th birthday on Feb 3!

Hi all,

I didn't come even close to my goal. In fact, I gained 5 lbs from 12/12 to 1/2 but I am confident that now things will turn around. I am going to get back to exercising this week. I want to be down to 175 by Valentine's Day. I can do this...no...WE can do this.

Checking in and I suck!

Okay, well, not really but it sorta feels like the thing to say right now!

I WAS 179 and my goal was 170. Well, I'm 180! YUCK!!

Tho I have to say that before surgery that gain would have been A LOT more. I'm actually okay with it. Not happy by any means but I'm okay.

On to 2010!!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
