Banded for 3 weeks and 5cc fill already?!?!?!

Recommended Posts

Alright time for question 1002-3. So I was banded Oct 10th. I went to get some of my last stitches out on the weekend and the doctor wanted to give me a fill. I was really surprised he wanted to do that so soon. Then he told me he was going to give me a 5cc fill and I thought he was joking! My band is only 11cc that is almost half filling the band.

Since I have lost 9kg ( 20 lbs) in those 3 weeks since surgery I told my doctor I wanted to wait. He was surprised because apparently most patients want fast results which I want to be safe and lose weight slowly ( Koreans expect things instantly).

How long did everyone wait before getting their first fill? My doctor scheduled me to come back in two weeks for my first fill but I think I will cancel it and wait until I am not losing any weight. Even without a fill I have restriction, so I am scared to get a fill.

I also dont want 5cc in my band right away. Is 2cc a good start for a first fill?

Its amazing how differently doc do things with lapband. I also had lunch with my doctor that day and he gave me a Vitamin drink and said I can eat and drink at the same time because I dont have a fill yet. I thought that was strange too (because i always wait 30 minutes between eating and drinking and I do feel restriction without a fill).

Other peoples input would be great. Thanks

Hello,

I was banded on October 16th and today (11/2) I had my first fill! 3cc's. I am unsure if it is good or not. I lost 10 lbs. the first 2.5 weeks since surgery. I would like to know the answer to this question also.

All the best,

Renee

My dr. has me scheduled to get a 2cc fill at 6 weeks post op. Im not sure why the dr.'s do things so differant. I noticed(since I haven't had a fill) that I can eat and drink at the same time it doesn't bother me at all. But I think once u get a fill u cant fit that much into your stomach. I'm expecting for things to be much differant after my fill!!!

I find if I eat and drink at the same time it makes me feel very uncomfortable. A week ago I ate dinner and drank Water too soon after with my Vitamins and I thought I had to go to the hospital I was in so much pain for hours after ( but knew they couldnt do anything for me really because I didnt have a fill).

It is strange that I have restriction without a fill. There are many things I cant eat already so that is why my weight loss is good I guess. I also have not experienced "Bandster Hell" yet. Fingers crossed for that

I had 4cc on first fill and 2.5cc on second fill. The first fill was six weeks after surgery and the second fill was four weeks later. I have a 11cc band. The only time I even know I have the band is when I eat too fast & don't chew well. Then I have PAIN!

it depends. 5 cc's may be too much or to little. If you don't acheive restriction it is not enough, If you can't eat, it is too much. Dr's will either do it under flouro which lets them see how much Fluid goes through when you drink barium, or they will do it by having you drink Water and have you see how it goes down. My first fill was 5.2 and I have very little to no restriction.

I was banded on 10/7 and went back on 10/18 for a post-op visit and got a fill of 3cc. I found out I was already filled with 1cc at the time of the surgery. The pain you are experiencing is most likely from swelling. It happened to me also. Just sip on your drinks and chew chew chew. I know what you mean about the pain. It is NOT fun when that happens. I am scheduled to go back for another fill on 11/18. I am at a total of 4cc in a 10cc band!! Good luck to you. I have found this site to be very useful when it comes to questions and concerns about the band. Although each doctor does things differently, we are all hoping for the same results!!

I got 2cc at surgery and fill up relatively quickly (I am working on a salad with grilled chicken right now that I used to be able to lick the bowl and right now there's more than half left and I am quite full) so I have been avoiding drinking... from what my program has advised, not drinking when and after I eat now is more to get in the behavior and habit for later. the psychologist I went to pre-op had suggested I start the habit then, which I did for the most part and it's helped. The most I will drink is a TINY sip to swish around my mouth.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
