Gas and Gas-X question

Recommended Posts

So I'm all worried about the post op gas pain. I've seen a few people recommend Gas-X strips. I was thinking that they might not help at all. The gas isn't in your belly where the strip will end up, but under your skin. I can't imagine that the Gas-X travels systemically. Has anyone's surgeon advised them one way or the other about this??

I know a lot of people say it helps but my recovery nurse said exactly what you did, the gas isnt in your digestive system it's under the skin. The best thing that worked for me was walking and moving around.

You're absolutely right. I went out and bought the gas-x strips that dissolve on your tongue, like a prepared lap-band patient should!! Then I showed up to the hospital with them and when my surgeon's physician assistant came to visit me after surgery he saw them on my bedside table. He said that gas-x strips DO NOT work for the type of gas that post-op lap-band patients experience. Gas-x strips only work for gas that is within the intestines themselves. I can tell you the best thing for gas post-op is to WALK, WALK, WALK. And walk some more!

Well, I do agree that the gasX strips didn't help with the body gas, but I didn't have much of that, luckily. I DID have quite a bit of the other kind after drinking my Protein drinks for the first 6 days or so until my body got used to them. I think blending a Protein Drink in a blender puts air into it. Or my body just had to get used to no solids and get over it. LOL!! Anyway, I had a lot of THAT type of gas and the gasX did help it.

I had surgery the 19th and I'm feeling great. Been back to work for a week already.

They can say what they want about the Gas-X strips but my doctor recommended them. I used them and they helped me get rid of the gas pain. I got a respiratory virus two days after surgery and was so sick that I was unable to walk, so I know that walking didn't help the gas. I still use the strips ocassionally. For me, they work...it's that simple.

A heating pad and liquid tylenol helped with the gas the dr pumped into my stomach. But, I had a lot of regular gas also. It would make me dry heave, so the strips came in extremely handy!

I'm thinking that Gas-X strips wouldn't be a bad thing to have around the house b/c maybe with the smaller pouch we won't be able to tolerate regualr gas as well as before, but I'm definitely going to pick up a heating pad, get ready to walk, walk, walk and hope for the best!

I found heat, liquid tylenol to help a lot, and for me Gas-X didn't help at all, but the chewable Maalox or Mylanta DID. I was burping with every step, and after drinking/eating, so these two helped dissipate all the gas I had - not sure how, but it did.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
