Falling off the liquid diet bandwagon...

Recommended Posts

So my pre-op liquid diet was more than 14 days just because of how the scheduling worked out, it's more like 19 days...and I'm on day 14 today. I'm so sick of this! I started munching on saltine crackers (cheating) a few days ago, and today I completely fell off the bandwagon and had a bowl of Soup and crackers. OMG! This is all because I was disappointed at my pre-op apptment yesturday which concluded that I've only lost 6lbs while on this liquid diet. I was so disappointed! I feel like I've lost more than 10lbs because I've adjusted my bras, gotten into size 20 jeans, and felt way skinner, but I was so sad to see that the number on the scale didn't match up to what I thought. Therefore I have 5 days till surgery and I'm panicking and eating food! Someone help me!

I am so sorry the scale didn't match the non scale victories you've experienced. For some reason, we just want validation from that stupid scale that we're losing. Obviously, you're losing fat, or you wouldn't be going down in sizes. It doesn't sound like you've gone too far off your diet that you need to worry. One of the most important things is to watch those carbs pre op. You're so close now, and you've worked your butt off on that liquid diet, so don't be hard on yourself about this temporary set back. Just put that doctor's appointment behind you, and go strong to the finish. Good luck, and come to LBT when you need to let off steam.

K-State:

Don't get so down on yourself and, more importantly, DON'T GIVE UP! I can't give you much advice for getting through the pre-op diet, b/c I don't start mine for another week (and mine isn't all liquids), but I would advise you to keep your carbs to a minimum if you MUST cheat. Low carbs are what is shrinking that fat around the liver and will help your surgeon see your stomach better to band it! So, try not to eat saltines.

You can do this! We are all here to support each other and help each other get through these hard times. If you are feeling like eating carbs, drink some Water or a Protein shake, come on here and vent!

I wish you all the luck (and willpower!) in the world!

Don't get discouraged and let yourself cheat! You've been doing great. Just because the scale only went down a little doesnt mean you havent lost much. If your clothes are looser then you KNOW you're losing. Water weight can make the scale fluctuate up and down 5 lbs. Keep positive! You're almost there!

I know the feeling!!!But don't be hard on yourself- you've done well with the liquid diet.

Can I make a suggestion? Put away your scale!!!! That HELPS me a lot. I wouldn't be obsessed about the weight loss during pre-op dieting. the most impt thing is u will lose alot post surgery then you can take back ur scale. pUtting ur scale away would help u focus on getting back on track and focus on ur surgery preparations.

good luck! We're all here rooting for you and you're doing good. 6 lbs is great!!!

hang in there~ :lol::Yawn:

sorry I just read it again, you were weighted at the dr appt.

but still 6 lbs! GO YOU!!! I lost 8 lbs too but I felt like i lost 15 because of my clothes, too and my ring fell off my finger...

just look at that as a sign that you're getting SKINNY! and have u been exercising too???

You can do it!!! You are going to have to do it after the banding too so just don't look at it like it's 14 days and then it's over. You have to look at this like a lifestyle change... not a quick fix.

Please don't give up. The purpose of the liquid diet is to shrink your liver. Don't look at the numbers on the scale because, you are losing inches; look at how your clothes are fitting verses looking at the numbers on the scale. Take it one day at a time. Don't beat yourself up for falling off. just get back up and start again. You are human and need a little more motivation and will power. You are not going through all this for nothing. You've come too far to give up now. Get back up. Please visit my web page. www.myra-smith.blogspot.com :scared2:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
