Can't take deep breath without tightness...

Recommended Posts

Ok, I need help because I'm worried. I got my lapband just before Thanksgiving last year (so, just shy of a year ago). My band was filled at 7.2 cc. I was worried that it was leaking, so I went back to the DR. He pulled all of the Fluid out - noticed no leak & put it back in with an additional 3/4 CC. So, now I'm filled at 8 cc. Well, I had the adjustment on Monday and been having trouble ever since. It's now Wednesday. I was having a hard time keeping anything down, but now I can eat some food & drink without trouble. However, when I lay down, I go into coughing fits, reflux (I wind up throwing up in the middle of the night), sleeping on the recliner to help elliviate the issue. I experience heartburn during the day for no reason (even if I haven't eaten). And, now, when I take a deep breath, I feel pressure (not pain), but I can't take a full deep breath because of the tightness I'm experiencing.

So, what is this? Is the band too tight? Has the band slipped? Have you ever encountered this? If the band slipped, do I need to go to the hospital - or will it be okay for a few days?

In addition, I'm feeling like crap b/c I've been scared to eat, so I've only been taking in a few 100 calories per day - not sleeping well & feeling like crap. So, I'm thinking that I might even be slightly dehydrated. Because of the night time issues, I stop eating & drinking anything around 5 PM (trying to minimize the nighttime reflux & coughing).

Call you doctor asap. This is not normal. Tell him your symptoms. You band/stomach/esophagus is probably irritated and swollen. Go on a liquid diet until you hear from the doctor.

Let us know howyou make out.

I second l2l's advice. To help lessen any swelling and in the likely chance you're a bit overfilled, you should stick to liquids until you talk to your doctor.

You should never be so filled that you have this experience. Call your surgeon asap and get into see them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
