Can not keep anything down after 3rd fill

Recommended Posts

I had my third fill on Thursday and while at the Dr office I was able to down Water better than either of the other two fills I have had. I made a chickpea puree with lemon and dill and am throwing it up almost right away after it gets stuck. The band is not loosening in the evenings at all...I guess this is getting close to my sweet spot?

It sounds like you are tighter than your sweet spot.

Try liquids for a couple days and slowly work in the more solid stuff, but if you are throwing up, you may need a tiny unfill.

Agree with the above. If you haven't loosened up enough in a few days that you can eat the 1C of SOLID foods (or whatever amount your doc recommends), then you need a little unfill. You're past the Sweet Spot right now. My doc recommends 2 days of liquids and then ease back into mushies then solids...if you've gone back to solids too fast (the food you mentioned sounds like mushies though and if you are having a problem with mushies that's not good) it may just be some swelling of the stoma, but you should know in a day or two. Good luck ! -BG

I am vigilant about the mushies-liquids, I will give it a couple of days as of now I am keeping down nothing except a little Water. It feels like I was just banded again, I guess on the upside I have lost about 5 pounds since the fill and today I bought two size 12 dresses at Ann Taylor. If I am not better by Thursday I will go for an unfill.

OK, I didn't realize you can't keep anything down but water!!! Guess that's what you meant by the title, sorry. You need to call your doc and get in now, not Thursday. No question that you are too tight and you can quickly get dehydrated. You don't want to find yourself not being able to swallow your own spit in the middle of the night...and that can happen quickly (your stoma will continue to swell as liquids have trouble getting through). Please call them today...sometimes even .1cc out can be enough to make a huge difference.

I also had a fill on Thursday and I can eat a very small amount and keep it down, Protein Shakes are the best! They fill me up and stay down. If you can only keep down a little bit of Water that isn't good. Your body needs food and water!

I was thinking of getting a little fill taken out over this past weekend becuase I was really getting everything stuck then today I realized old habits die hard and I wasn't chewing my food very, very good and I was taking big bites.

Good luck!!

Today I got down some black Beans and green chilies puree without much of an issue in the evening. I am keeping hydrated and I think the swelling is going down as I can eat again and am keeping down Water.

Thank-you for all your support as always!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
