I have a slip confirmed by CT - do I need to go to the ER NOW?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was in the hospital for three days this week because I have been having horrible pains in my left and right sides. I had to have a CT to rule out any problems and they so happen to find that my band has slipped.

Well I have been discharged from that hospital, my lap band doc works at another hospital, and it's Saturday night. What am I supposed to do? Do I go to that other hospitals emergency department or do I just wait until Monday? I have enough percocet on me to handle the pain. I think maybe the pain I have been experiencing is because of the slippage????

Also do they normally replace the band? Because I have the Realize band which I am NOT happy with and would rather have the Lapband put in me like I was originally led to believe I was going to be given.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I would wait to see your surgeon. They are the ones experienced in this and you don't want someone just messing around in there. I hope you get the pain relief and are seen soon.

If you're in a lot of pain, you should call your surgeon to see what s/he wants you to do. I'm surprised the ER didn't do that when you were there - even if your doc operates out of the other hospital.

Sorry you're having trouble.

How did you make out on monday? Did you call your doc?

In my case, my band just slipped, but I wasn't having horrible pain - I was just having trouble at night, and vomitting, reflux, etc.

My doc had me go on liquid/mushy stage diet, and scheduled surgery for me for next week. He did say if I had ANY trouble keeping liquids down to immediately go to the hospital. At the time of my barium swallow, (after being up all night wretching), my stomach/esophogus was so inflamed that the barium barely trickled through even though the doc had totally unfilled my band before the swallow.

(I even spit up some foamy spit the nite before this "emergency".. I believe the area around my band was so swollen, I couldn't even swallow my own spit.

If it does close off, it is not good. It can actually damage the stomach.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
