Cold Weather and More Restriction

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had any issues or heard that we are more restricted when its cold out? I was outside this weekend in the cold and had hard time getting liquids down and keeping them down! I can normally eat with normal restriction on any other day?

If you were cold and tensed up and shivering, I could see that happening, but I've never experienced that. Stress or emotional upset make me VERY restricted. Flying in airplanes does too. The change in cabin pressure and the altitude seem to do a number on me for a day or two. I'm flying to Washington State next week, and don't look forward to my first night there. I'm also tight in the morning. Can only manage yogurt, cottage cheese or a smoothie.< /p>

Interesting you asked this. I visited the boards to see if anyone else had this experience. I've been banded for 11 months and have never had food get stuck. Today food got stuck at both lunch and dinner - not a good feeling! It's been cold here as well and that's the only difference I can think of.

I have heard that it can affect the band and now I believe it. I have extra stress worrying about my oldest child but hadn't had issues until our cold snap this weekend. I pbd for the first time in 6 weeks on Sunday and yesterday. It happened on food that normally doesn't give me problems...grits. Grits, really? How in the world should THAT give me problems? The only thing that had changed was our low temperature dropped 30+ degrees, so that is what I think happened.:cursing:

An interesting question - I have never had it happen with me, though. I experience a lot of cold weather (snow started last week, and will last until April) and haven't had that phenomenon. But maybe because cold temps and snow are normal here, my body didn't react to it, whereas if you are usually in a more temperate climate, the temps shocked your body.

Ok, so what happens when you fly? I am heading to Italy and now am nervous. Anyone have a story to tell me??

mine definetly gets tighter when it gets cold out. we had a cold snap 2 weeks ago and nothing stayed down for 5 days. You should be ok on the plane, just really chew. I get tight when flying also and when going into uppper elevation states.

I am definitely tighter when it's cold out! I don't know why it happens, but I know several people who have the same issue. Just another one of those finicky band things I guess.

YES! I haven't had a winter for 8 years so my body is definitely feeling the change.

My band is so much tighter and this is the only explanation. My last Dr's appointment was in may and I had an unfill!! Now I can hardly keep my food down and have lost 10 kilos (20 pounds) in a few weeks. I didn't lose much weight after the unfill to now, so this is a pleasant surprise. Its not getting any looser either.

I'm off to a warmer climate for Xmas, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I was hoping to see a Dr then and get a check up and things sorted before I come back to snow!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
