i had lap band surgery on september 23rd. I can eat anything i want with no restriction. I dont even feel as if I have had surgery except for the 5 scars on my stomach. Did I go through this long process for nothing? I get my first fill on october 30th. Will this help? I havent thrown up or had gas or any side effects that I have seen others say they have had. I am so worried that this will not work for me.

Hi! I had surgery the same day as you did. I went to Dr. 1 1/2 week post op and had lost 14lbs. Went back today for my 1st fill and had only lost 1 more.....the reason is "bandster hell" the period between surgery and your first fill where you have no restriction. I honestly felt like nothing had been done to me....so, you are not alone.

Today for my first fill Dr. put in 5cc's...said that 2-3 remain in port/tube so only 2-3 would be in band...well, I could not swallow Water (even one sip). I immediately threw up and it hurt really bad. So he came back in and took out about 2cc's...I instantly felt better. I just drank some chocolate milk and i can feel restriction!! Here's hoping that I have some restriction!!

You will feel better after getting your first fill, but even then I have heard that it could take a couple of fills to feel restriction!!

Good Luck!!

Hi.. what you feel is normal! You may even gain weight during the period before you get your first fill and find restriction. DO NOT panic! The most important thing you need to be focusing on right now is getting in your Protein, and learning to CHEW. DO NOT compare yourself to others either.. I know its hard.. but it will just discourage you if youre not losing as fast as someone else.

And to the other poster who got 5cc's on her first fill.. WOW.. aggressive doctor! I'm a year out.. had 3 fills and I'm only at 4.2cc's and feeling good restriction. I can't imagine jumping right in with 5cc's. But everyone is different with restriction levels.. that is for sure. Just hang in there.. I love my band!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
