A week or two on a low carb diet and your levels will drop right down. I'm surprised they didn't suggest it.

I've been a Type II diabetic for the last 3 years and one of the reasons I'm getting the band is for blood sugar control. I never feel full and the only way I do is to bulk up on carbs, which elevate my sugar and I'm terrible about remembering to take my meds. After a week on a low carb diet, my readings drop from over 300 to normal.

Good luck at the endocrinologists!

I'm sure it depends on how high it is. Low carbing it for a couple of weeks should help. Byetta helped lower mine in a fast hurry a year or so before my surgery (made me kinda barfy feeling, too, though).

Before my endoscope, my blood glucose level was a tiny bit high. The doctor insisted on insulin - I'd never had it before. The nurses were all very surprised.

It would be a shame if this slows down your surgery since the surgery will help with the problem. Hopefully, your endo will have solutions.

xo

I had the same problem and they wouldn't do sugery unless my blood sugar was under 170 for a lest a week and they took my blood sugar right before they rolled me into surgery... My surgeon was not going to do it because of the complications you can have. You don't heal properly with high blood sugar and they don't want to have to monitor it while you are in surgery...

I just ate Protein for a month before surgery and they jacked me up on insulin... Never took it before as I never new I had diabetes until the testing started for my surgery...My levels were above 300 and got has high as 390 at one reading... No clue I had a problem and don't know how long I was walking around like this...

Anyway, just eat pure Protein and walk a lot... I got mine down into the 170's and got my sugery... I can tell you I have not had any insulin since the day after my surgery and my blood sugars have stayed below 150 ever since...

Good luck to you!

Yes and you will be surprised how satisfying Protein is. You eat meat, eggs, cheese, seafood, and green vegs. No starchy vegs, potatoes, Pasta, rice, fruit, or bread. A steak and a salad or a hamb. patty and a salad, etc. is way more satisfying than the carb junk and you will feel so much more energy. You will need to eat this way after surgery too so give it a try!! Good luck!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
