Please explain what your "sweet spot" feels like..

Recommended Posts

I've started this thread before but didn't get the answers I was looking for. I know that everyone's sweet spots are different, but please explain to me what your's feels like, I need details!!!

I thought I found my sweet spot but then I wasn't sure.. is it like love and when you fall in it you just KNOW? lol. I can feel my food go down but it doesn't stay in my pouch, is it supposed to? Or is it supposed to pass? I thought I had good restriction but I have never felt "full" from it, do you think that means I need more saline?

Help.. I'm a flippin goon here and I'm all sorts of confused.

I, too, am in search of my "sweet spot" and at 1/4 cc and $500 a fill it is taking a long time because my docs won't do it more often than 6 weeks.

My sweet spot is where I feel satisfied with a 3 oz portion of Protein and a 1/2 to 1 cup of veggies for about 3 - 4 hours. It's hard to explain because NO you don't feel the full feelings like you used to feel. At least you shouldn't get to that point for fear of stretching your pouch. When you get to the proper amount of "full" you will maybe give a little sigh, hiccup or believe it or not your nose may run. Don't ask my why your body does things like that cause I don't know.

My sweet spot makes it a doable thing to eat smaller portions and make it 3 - 4 hours in between meals. I still sometimes feel hunger but not often if I eat the right things. My sweet spot makes it where I'm not all consumed with thoughts of food but of other things in life.

Sometimes I can eat more and sometimes I can eat less. Things like stress, hormones and stuff will affect it. I had my first and I pray only experience with PBing this last month and it wasn't fun. I had to have a little Fluid removed because I don't want to have to tiptoe around everything I eat and I absolutely HATE heartburn.

Some people want the strangle hold feeling but it causes lots of problems. Me, I want to live my life without constantly worrying about what I'm eating. I know my trouble foods and I have learned to listen to my body.

I hope this helps. It is hard to explain and yes everyone will explain it differently. If I can help anymore, please feel free to contact me. I will try my darndest to answer you.

Mimilou2004 - don't rush up on that sweet spot. You'll be paying more trying to readjust the band than you would if you just creep up on it. One tenth of a cc can put you into dire straights.

The full feeling you're seeking isn't the right thing. As overweight people, what we always thought was "full" was actually "too full".

Satiety is what you should experience once you reach your sweet spot. You should be able to eat a cup or less of food and no longer feel hungry and you should continue to feel that way for at least 4 hours. Less than 4 hours and you aren't quite there.

Thank you for your input.. this has helped me. I never thought that it would confuse me like it has recently. I think I do have good restriction right now and will wait another week or so for a fill, or at least see how I am feeling by then.

I have never felt full so I didnt know if I needed more restriction or not. But I do measure my foods and eat just that amount to feel satiety, same as what my NP says to look for.

I have gone down a couple pounds which is GREAT to finally see.. I was wondering what the hell was going on and when things would start moving for me. I'll just keep up with what I'm doing now and hopefully get good results.. thanks!!

Here's what it feels like to me: (Im 6 months post-op with 6cc's in a 10cc band)

When Im out with friends for dinner, I order a chopped barbeque chicken salad, the lunch portion. I eat about 1/3 of the lunch portion--maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup and am totally stuffed. About 3 hours later, when we stop in the mall for frozen yogurt, I get a kiddie size cup of non-fat yogurt, have a half a dozen bites and throw the rest out.

It feels like food no longer controls me. I eat when Im hungry. I stop when Im not. I dont feel compelled to BINGE. (Binge eating was a huge issue for me) I feel...dare I say it, NORMAL.

Oh how jealous I am of those of you who have found your happy spot!!! I think I've got too much in my band now. I just had my 7th fill this week and am at 7.75 in a 10 cc. . . I think I might fall back to the 7.5 simply because life was easier. I'll just diet more. It helped, but I think I might have expect it to do too much. . . at 7.75 I couldn't even take 2 sips of a slim fast this morning. That's not right is it?

For me, being properly filled means that I am not "grazing" for food. No between meals hunger and I rarely get to the point of STARVING even if I've gone too long without eating.

I wish my doctor and his PAs had told me about the signs that I had hit my elusive "sweet spot." I only found out about these signs a few months ago and realize now that I pay attention to see if they happen that they've been there all along for at least the past year. In a way, I feel duped.

You kind of do know it when you see it. For me it means that I can eat tomatoes, salad and chicken breast (these are the first things to go if I'm too tight) and chug a big bottle of Water before I go to sleep without any reflux. It is, however, an imperfect science. Right now I need to chew slowly and need to work pretty hard to eat grapes, for example, but I do find myself feeling a little too hungry. I make good choices (a few almonds here, some bites of something there), but with perfect restriction I should be ok for the four or five hours between meals and I'm not. I've also ALWAYS eaten way more than that half a cup thing people talk about. It's really a line you have to walk, although it doesn't sound like you're up to it yet. I had two fills early on that did absolutely nothing and then a magical fill which helped me lose the lion's share of this weight. Don't be too ambitious, I'd advise, Being over-full is no fun and counter-productive. Patience and baby steps!

I felt it today!! I just ate an omlette with shredded salt fish and cheese in it (don't judge me, I needed the protein) and my band stopped me! YEA!!!!

I eat 2-3 cups of food and am not searching for food and can easily say no to it for up to 3-5 hours. My sweet spot is 7.5-7.75 in my 11 cc band. If I try to eat bread or something bulky more than once a day, it hurts my chest and when I start to get full I hiccup a couple times and then after 2-3 more bites I feel tightening and am no longer hungry. I can honestly say somedays I feel too tight, but then I think of the alternative of being able to eat what and however much I want...Fatsville! I don't get full in my belly anymore, I feel food in my throat sorta and no longer hungry.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
