Yes I want to eat real foods too. Hate the Protein Shakes. They make me gag!! But after the last fill I was short on Protein so I used dry milk powder added to my skim plus and Proteinex in my drinks to get the protein up. After four weeks I can almost eat enough protein so I can get back to real food again - just not much!!! But there are times when we may temporarily need to use those protein supplements.< /p>

I add a serving of my Protein Shake to my plain greek yogurt. I then add 1 tsp of sugar free jelly for flavor. I am only 7 days out and the nutritionist told me about the yogurt. This will work until I can eat real food again. It goes down easy and feels great in my tummy for a long time. It also gives me over 66 grams of Protein at the end of the day.

I got this recipe off of the food Network website and LOVE IT. I made it long before I decided to have surgery.

Roasted chicken Sausage Meatballs

Serves 4

Preheat oven to 450 degrees

1 and 1/2 lbs ground chicken

Black Pepper

Salt

2-3 spriggs fresh Rosemary, leaves stripped and finely chopped

2 tsp fennel seeds (gives it the sausage taste)

3 cloves garlic, grated

1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

1 cup ricotta (I always use cottage cheese, I just prefer it)

1 egg (I have used egg substitute before)

1/2 c grated Parmesan

Combine the chicken, salt, pepper, rosemary, fennel seeds, garlic, red pepper flakes, ricotta, 1/2 c parmesan, egg, and breadcrumbs. If the mixture seems too wet, add more breadcrumbs.

Mix well and form 8 large round balls, about 3-4 inches across. Grease baking sheet with extra virgin olive oil, and coat (I eliminated this part) each meatball with olive oil.

Arrange balls on the baking sheets and roast 17-18 minutes until juices run clear.

I do not have the Protein amount, or the nutrition information, but if you choose lower fat options, I cant imagine that it is all that bad!

Changed 1 and 1/2 c Parmesan to 1/2 c, the other portion was for the mac and cheese that goes with this recipe, didnt post

Thanks for the recipe. Sounds great and by the looks of it has plenty of lean Protein when using fat free option.

It's a lot lighter if you use low fat cottage cheese rather than ricotta. This sounds yummy and I think we're going to try it this week! :thumbup:

My nurse recomends 1 Protein Drink a day, just to add to the Protein you get from food. I found a brand called nectar. They have a lemonade that is really good, it is not chalky or thick. It's like Crystal Lite. I sometimes add little Cherry Crystal Lite for flavoring!!

I've been told by my doc to not drink Protein shakes because liquid passes through the stomach rather quickly and as a result there isn't a prolonged feeling of satiety. So I stopped drinking Protein Shakes completely and I am doing much better, especially in the mornings when I would find myself starving to death at about 10:30 AM.

What Proteins do I like? Low fat cottage cheese has plenty of Protein. Low fat cheese. eggs. Any meat (cooking methods chosen to accommodate what works for me), such as lean ground beef patties grilled (no more done than medium rare for me) but no bun. Greek yogurt (I don't like regular yogurt).

Solid protein takes a while to be digested so it stays in your pouch longer, so it makes you feel full longer. Ditch the shakes. I was hooked on them, especially for Breakfast because of the convenience. But taking the time to prepare solid food pays off by you being full longer.

Every once in a while I read something someone has posted and I think "ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!" Why didn't I think of this? I truly think that the Protein Shakes are getting in the way. While they have good protein in them, you get very little defense from hunger with them. It makes perfect sense, Cathy! The liquid will drain throuh the pouch quicker making you hungry quicker. For the same protein, you could each high protein cottage cheese or eggs or tons of other things. I would like that a whole lot better too.

Also, applause for Robin who said she is trying to do this with real food. I AGREE COMPLETELY!

Im 3.5 weeks post op and not allowed real food yet. Still doing shakes and bullets along with Soup, superskim milk, eggs, the soft stuff. Cant wait till next week for another phase!

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
