Hi from Down Under

Recommended Posts

G'day. My name is Thérèse and I am an Aussie Bandster. I am 44 years old, very happily married with no kids (only the furry 4 legged kind) I live in rural Australia so pretty much out in the middle of nowhere.

I was banded in January this year after a lifetime of obesity. I am still obese of course but a lot "less" obese than I was 9 months ago. We work in Kilos so I have to convert but I started out at 396lb (180kg) and I am now 286lb. (130kg) I am rather pleased with myself but still have a lot of emotional stuff that goes with weight issues. But I am working on them. I recently attended a 2 day conference for bandsters and it really helped with information and support. Meeting others who live with the band was fantastic so I thought I would venture in here and see if broadening my horizons to other people was also helpful.

I am happy to meet you all and do love a good chat!

regards

Thérèse

Welcome Therese, it's nice to meet you. There are several members here who are in Australia, I'm sure they'll come around to welcome you soon.

You've done a great job losing 50 kgs in 9 months!! Well done! You have every right to be pleased with yourself, it's an awesome accomplishment.

Sounds like you enjoyed the conference, and I know you will enjoy the members here at LBT :) Any question you have, put it out there and you'll get very honest opinions. It's great to have such a good support team.

All the best,

Welcome to LBT, Therese :)

50kgs in 9 months is absolutely fantastic!!! Congratulations on your accomplishments.

I'm in Oz too - Melbourne, to be exact. I didn't get to make it to the conference this year, but its on my must do list for next year.

You'll like it here. The people are some of the best in the world. I couldn't have made it this far without them.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. Also thanks for the encouragement. I often get quite down that its not coming off fast enough but then I sit back and honestly think about how much I have lost. I realise I still have a long way to go but I am a lot closer than I was 9 months ago!

I am glad I found LBT and will post more...I am just finding my feet and reading posts, but I am definitely here!!!

Regards

Thérèse

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
