drinking ....

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know I need to ask my doc but it's Saturday. Anyways, I went to a bar tonight with my DH and some friends and I didn't drink but they were asking me when I could drink again and I don't know. When can I drink again?

DISCLAIMER: I KNOW alcohol has empty calories, and I should avoid it, but I'm in my 3rd year of law school and I'm a little stressed by that and the looming bar exam so any critics will just have to accept that I AM going to have a margarita from time to time!

Okay, I know I havent been banded long, but as far as I can tell from the diet is that you can not have carbonation. Fact:hard liquor is non-carbonated and therefore margarita mix is non-carbonated, I drank a margarita the other night (small) and was fine, actually felt more relazed. I honestly think that as long as you dont drink things that are carbonated for a long time then you will be fine. Oh, also if you drink too much you may get a sloshy feeling, like your one big swimming pool lol. Just remember a glass of wine relaxes the mind, body and soul, where as glasses of wine embarasses the mind, body, and soul's pride and ego. Have fun and carefully experiment.

YOUR CLEARED FOR MARGARITA'S!!!

if they are 'frozen' go slow since the ice in the slush can make you a little tighter.

I dont have a problem with wanting to drink enormously fattening cocktails or anything, I'm a wine drinker. Wine o'clock comes early some days in this house, with 3 kids! I probably have a glass of wine four nights of the week.

All the information I have been given is that moderate wine consumption has health benefits - particularly red wine which is full of antioxidants - but that turns my teeth black, lol. My surgeon did not see a problem with four standard drinks a week by any stretch of the imagination - standard drink being 150ml or so not one of those huge fishbowls on stems that pass for wine glasses these days.

I've seen 2 surgeons and they've both provided the same information, wine in moderation a few times a week is perfectly fine, creamy cocktails, more than a drink or two, carbonated mixers all best avoided except for special occasions.

I have absolutely no doubt that there will be times when I go out that I will choose to drink rather than eat though and times when I will have more than four drinks a week.

It's liquid, go for it LOL. The surgeon said in our Information Evening that even beer, in moderation, is fine. Not promoting going on a four day binger or anything, but the occasional drink shouldn't be any problem.

I'm not a huge drinker, but when I go out for drinks, I want to do it right :) On those nights, I usually choose to drink, rather than eat, as I can't fit both in.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
