Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor I need some help

Recommended Posts

Hi, everyone. I need some help. I was banded in June of 2006 in Mexico. Due to the fact that I went out of country, no doctor would see me for after care in the United States. I have never received any support and I have read a few books on Lap Bands. I had paid out of pocket for my fills and went to a doctor in Olympia, WA. I have never successfully lost weight with the lap band. I tend to eat "around it" and of course that makes you gain weight.

I recently got a doctor to take me on as a patient last year. I still don't receive the support I am looking for and the help I desire. I have had 6 fills and have never achieved my "sweet spot". I had been over filled for over a 1 1/2 and couldn't eat much of anything that was healthy for me and was always pb'ing. The new doctor that took me as a patient did all the appropriate tests (flueroscopy) and checked to make sure that I didn't have any slippange, herniea, etc... He found my band and stomach to be fine and doing good, under the circumstances. So he unfilled me for a month and then re-filled me and now I can eat almost anything. That was a year ago.

I would like someone to be a mentor and give me some advice/help/suggestions on being banded. I know this is a tool, and I have thought of it as that, but... I don't feel the tool helps me in making me feel full. I have an unhealthy relationship with food as I'm sure most of us here do.

I so desparately want to know what it is like to feel that "sweet spot" and to have some success with my lap band. I would like to have some ideas on what other peoples typical day of eating is like.

Any help you can offer would great!

Thank you in advance.

Lo:confused:

I'll be happy to mentor you but the first thing is - it sounds like you need to go get another fill- you haven't been to the doctor for a year now and he only gave you one fill after your unfill...you're probably just not there-if you want more ideas, etc please PM me so we can do email- this forum is a bit cumbersome- email or iM is easier..

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
