Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I had my surgery this morning and im feeling pretty good. I am sore but my throat seems to hurt the worst because of the tubing they put down it  Everything went smoothly and I cant wait until I feel better so I can start my new lifestyle.

Wish me luck!!

sipping very cold liquids helps and holding ice pack on stomach. Mild cough drops may help your throat, it did mine. If you suffer from dry mouth it is prolonged by the pain meds.

I am happy for you and you will be very happy you did it !

Chew on crushed ice and in a day or two, it will be better. Good luck on your new journey.

Good luck on your journey. I was out of it the first few days but after that I was fine. My shoulder was sore and I had A Lot of gas. I was warned about the gas but I guess you never know what someone means until you experience it. Gas X helped a lot. Keep me posted on your journey. I wish you all the best!

Hello,

I had my surgery Friday morning and I'm still very sore. The pain meds seem to be the only thing that helps the incision sites aside from holding a very soft folded up blanket and an ice pack. The gas is bad too, but finally happily passing it! LOL I've been hungry too... just started my Protein Shakes yesterday and I'm still so hungry. I don't remember reading anything or being notified about being hungry! Also, my throat is still very sore (from the tube?) and I'm hoping that goes away soon. I'm worried that now I have strep.

I am supposed to be back to work on Wednesday and I hope I can do it. Let's just see.

Oh yes, anyone have any tips on getting out of bed? That is the worst part... getting in and out of bed because it really stretches the surgery site.

Thanks to everyone... Best of wishes and good luck on your journeys!

~Renee

With me it helped to "roll" out of bed. Even that will get better very soon. I hope your job isn't too demanding.

The only real problem I had going back to work was feeling very weak.

Thank you. I'm sort of doing that now... using my arm to get up rather than my body, but still it's hard.

I am an administrator so I sit at a desk all day; not too demanding. Although I do have to travel 2 hours on 10/28. I hope that won't be a problem because I have to do it.

Anyone else feel a bit depressed? I'm just thinking to myself, "what did I do?"

Wisteria75 - I'm right there with you. I had my surgery Thursday morning. Every time I've felt like whining or complaining about my incision pain or gas pain (yikes!!), I've just thought miserably that this was my choice and I have no one to blame but myself. But then I remember that this feeling is temporary--in a few weeks it will be better. Let's hang in there!

Congrats to you!

Yes, like it was my choice and I'm in this pain because of me... etc. Good to be able to relate to someone!

I really hope this feeling is temporary, it's not just that, I am feeling emotionally, mentally, like what did I do? What was I thinking? I think it is probably normal to think that way but being in so much pain and being stuck in the house is just plain depressing. Nevermind going back to work and all the stuff I'll have to take with me... argh. That's my rant for the day.

Congrats!! You will begin to feel better very soon. Hang in there and be sure to stick to your post op diet. It’s for healing above losing. J

Congrats on making the decision to have the surgery. I agree with littlemissdiva; the pain is temporary and stick with the post-op diet. Soon you'll start to feel better. I'm finding that it is a journey, but one that I'm glad that I ventured out on. Blessings to you.

Welcome -- and congratulations!! Your throat should heal pretty quickly -- should be fine in a day or too. Just be sure to get up and walk around to get the gas from surgery moving out!

Best wishes,

Catherine

Thanks everyone.

Oh yes... for some reason I never thought about taking measurements and stuff. I do have a before pic though. Thanks for bringing that up; I will definitely have hubby do it tonight. :cursing:

Hi all--came back to work today after getting banded Thursday. A little tired, but so far so good. I do have a question though: has anyone else had bruising/swelling/stinging pain about 2-3 inches below their port incision site? My incisions all look good and appear to be healing well, but there's a point about 2 or 3 inches below my port incision that stings like crazy when I move certain ways (e.g., getting in and out of the car). It's slightly bruised and was a little swollen last night (though better this morning). Just curious if this sounded like something anyone else has had...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
