Question about my Port

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I was banded in April 09 and I have been having a wonderful time losing weight feeling fantastic about myself and having so much more energy.

But last night I felt that my port was a bit sore - a bruised feeling and then I felt it and it seems like it has moved from where it was, ie above the scar instead of below. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this bruised feeling or the port moving this far into the banding? Should I go and see my doctor - there is an appointment booked for 4 weeks time, but just thought I would put it out there to see if this is a common thing or not.

Thanks - love reading about how everyone is going.

Well done everyone!

Hi loulou. If you're not feeling any real pain beyond a bit of soreness, and you don't have any other acute symptoms (ie, you can't keep anything down, or you suddenly feel zero restriction), then I think it's probably ok to wait out the 4 weeks for your doc's perspective. Just my opinion, though.

Loulou,

Sometimes it feels like my port has moved too. I don't know if it moves or if it just feels that way. For me it really seems to be in a different spot after exercising.

I was banded in late June and sometimes I feel that soreness too. After your doctor's appt, please post again and let us know what is going on.

I'm glad I found this thread!

I was banded 9/3/09 and just developed soreness feeling next to the scar where my port is under...No vomiting so the nurse said not to worry and is guessing its my port. It hurts the most when I seat down for a long time (at my desk at work) and crunch my stomach to bend down (i.e no sudden movements). I have an appointment on 10/9 so I figure as long as it doesn't get worse, I can wait til then (doctor office is 50 mins away).

One good thing is that it hasn't stopped me from my workouts!

I will keep you posted on what they say!

Our situations are a little different because I was banded in June (months after you) but I've been experiencing port pain. When I went in for my second fill on Wednesday I talked to the doctor who explained to me that after significant weight loss (I've lost 45lbs so far and hopefully more to come) the port and the clips that hold it on to the muscle under there can move around (due to the loss of fat) and aggitate whatever the heck is going on under there. Obviously talk to your doc about it. I was told that you have to AT LEAST wait one year after surgery to have a "port revision" which means they can actually take that port out and put in a smaller one. But I was told it was normal because of the weight loss. I also sit a lot for my job and I HAVE to wear an underwire bra so I dont think that is helping the situation at all. but oh well. I'll deal with the pain as long as it isn't excrutiating! Good luck!!!:scared2:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
