I just decided the other day I would like to have the LapBand surgery. But I have no idea where to begin! I have a PCP appointment next month, it's just for a yearly physical though. Should I meet with someone else to talk about getting the surgery, should I call my insurance company? Can someone please explain the process to me, lol, I'm so lost!

Start with your insurance. Find out if they cover the surgery and if so, what their prereqs are. Then (assuming insurance will cover) get a list of surgeons in your area who perform lap band and Weight loss surgeries. Call around, go to a seminar (or two, or more) Pick a surgeon you like...take it from there! Good luck!

Find out how the local surgeons in your area work by contacting one or two if you have more then one, check this site it will tell you who they are.... then check with your insurance in my case my first appt wasn't billed to the insurance co it was a flat fee and then if I was sure we moved fwd. then after I made a decision I needed a referral from my pcp and then moved fwd with my surgeon. check with the docs office first I didn't have to go to any seminar just a few support group meetings. Good Luck

My PCP sent me to a group that didn't accept my insurance so I wasted time. I didn't need a PCP referral, and if I'd just started with my insurance it would've gone faster. They require we go to only certain surgeons etc. So you can start with the docs but it may just delay you, like it did me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
