Why is it so hard to get motivated???

Recommended Posts

:sad:My ins requires a 6 month waiting period...which is fine, gives me time to make all the appointments and mentally and physically get myself ready for this huge step in my life....

My journey started July 1st and am thinking my surgery will be in January sometime.

I've quite smoking...it'll be 4 weeks on Tuesday...which is HUGE for me! I honestly loved to smoke and miss it. But it's going to make me healthier and wealthier not to smoke. That was 1 or 2 milestones for me to overcome for this surgery....the last one I have to do is lose my pre-surgery weight....that I'm having a hard time with. At my first appt, I was told I had to lose 13lbs. Now that I quit smoking and gained 6lbs, now I have to lose roughly 20lbs.

I just can't motivate myself to do it? Feeling very frustrated and sad....

Maybe I just need to clean out my cupboards and go grocery shopping and start fresh tomorrow....

Christy

Congrats on quitting smoking...That is a huge huge milestone. I am 3 weeks away from my 6th monthly visit and have only lost 8 pounds. It is very hard. Just look at the big picture and remember we want to get the surgery and have to motivate ourselves somehow to lose. Coming here everyday helps. Good luck on you adventure.

Hi Christy! The smoking is a HUGE accomplishment...don't underestimate that!

I got denied a few times so ended up starting my workouts before surg.when frankly I had no intention of doing so til post op. Glad I did. I joined a YMCA, started with Water areobics( I love to swim)and it's painless and you don't noticably sweat! I added about20 mins.of the machines 2 days a week in addition to the pool and quickly-and amazingly, progressed to 10 miles on land and 2 by water 3-4 days per week plus 2-3 days of water aerobics. I have my husband going with me on the weekends. I love it. I think the wonderful retired women I met in class helped. They were warm, welcoming, non judgemental...and I am missed when not there. Try not to set a huge goal. try for 20 minsw. 2-3x per week doing something you enjoy, swimming, dancing OR join a class with your kids if you have them... there are some fun family classes out there. My husbands ins. reimburses us for part of our membership too as an added bonus... something to check into. You know the old adage,... the longest journey begins with the 1st step... sure true for me and have to force myself to get moving each day... I love doing it but I need to push myself to get up and going. It's been way worse since surgery too.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
