I had the surgery in March. The band took a long time before it worked for me. It took 4 fills and has been working now for the last month. I started out at 253 and I have a goal of 140. So far I have lost 24 pounds, not all within the last month but about half of that in the last month. I have a hard time getting in all of my Water because I am trying to restrict myself to not drink at all with meals. That is the hardest part to me!

WELCOME! I wonder if I will lose better when I have more fills. I have only had one fill but I am not hungry most of the time but I can eat a little more than 3/4 cup at a meal, but then I feel really full. I lost 13 lbs at 4 weeks post op but at 8½ weeks post op I have only lost 23 total. I think I am behind everyone else in the July Bandsters. I can go back for a fill in 3 weeks. Right now I have 2cc in a 10cc band. I think I need a fill.

Don't be discouraged! You need a fill. My doc only fills once per month. It took me 4 fills before I was in the "green zone" and I am so glad this has finally happened. I have 8 cc's in my 12 cc band. But I am still not used to the "new eating habits". I am still figuring out what I can eat and how much I can eat. I am just now getting to where I will put the appropriate amount of food on my plate and believe me it is not much!!

Yes I think I need a fill too, maybe I can move it up some. I had my first one at 4 weeks and now I am 8½ weeks. I will call on Monday and see if I can get an appointment for two weeks from now. I hope that helps some. Thanks!

We have similar stats. I was 258 on surgery day and have a goal of 140. I am 195 right now almost a year out, so I am at about 50% of my goal. Not too fast, but I will take it. Good luck.

Yes, it doesnt come off fast enough but at least it is likely to stay off! Now that I am finally in the green zone I have been losing 3 pounds a week. I hope it stays that way. I would like to be under 200 by the new year. I know walking helps and I am doing that about 4 times a week but I really dont enjoy it!

Hi Courtney -

Just wanted to say Hi and welcome from another Cortney (just no U) and we are the same age. Small world.

I just got banded but I am dreading the day I plateau. I have a little more weight than you so post op here I have been losing pretty good. From the start of my pre op diet to now I have lost a total of 22 lbs. It is not even a month yet for me from the start of my pre op diet. I just hope it keeps going like this.

I love walking, it is just hard for me down here because of the heat (which seems to be less frazzling to me lately) and where I live, no sidewalks and street I live on is a danger zone for walkers, riders, etc.

I have a Wii and before surgery I did get My Fitness Coach for it and look forward to starting to try that and see what that does for me.

What do you like to do? Dance? Aerobics? Think of something you like to do and then try doing it.

For awhile I was putting on my favorite cd and just started dancing around my living room to it. Moving and bending, just doing my own thing for at least a song or two with the intention of working up to the whole CD which would be about a 45 to 60 minute workout depending on the CD. I was going to get some arm and leg weights to help too at a point. Still think I might do that.

Just thought I would share that with you to see if that gives you a few ideas to change it up. I am always happy listening to music and singing to myself. :cursing:

Oh side note, my husband and I want to move to NC. We have good friends in the Charlotte area and I have wanted to move to NC for awhile. We have looked from Raleigh to Greensboro to Hickory. (Getting that feeling of having a double out there...now if you say your birthday is in April we are going to have to talk.)

Look forward to getting to know you!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
