Any November 2009 Bandsters??

Recommended Posts

Hey my date is set for 11/20/2009 the week before Thanksgiving YIKES but I too am a nervous wreck the one thing I don't understand is my surgeon does not have me on any diet what so ever just 24 hours before the procedure a liquid diet. This kind of concerns me cuz if the pre op diet makes things go easier I would be all for it but he says not to worry about it. He also said he wanted me smoke free (yea I am a smoker) for 1 week when I have seen other people say they were to quit a month before--why so many differences from doctor to doctor??? Also it seems like a lot of people having this are in their 20's and 30's are there any 40 + people out there and do you think the recovery process takes longer for us older folks lol??? Anyway glad to see there are so many people starting this journey with me and hopefully we can share our experiences with each other every step of the way!!! Good luck everyone and lets all stay in touch!!!

Hi everyone.

I'm scheduled for Nov 23, assuming all goes well with preop testing next week. I tried going for the vertical sleeve, but of course my insurance company rejected it. I decided not to appeal and to just go for the band -- which was my original plan.

Lol. My Dr. actually changed bariatric centers (along with a nutritionist) during my 6 months of supervised weight loss so it's kind of interesting to be getting different recommendations now than I did in the beginning. I stopped smoking about a year ago and I'm in my 40's too.

I'm on the other side! Yeh! Surgery was yesterday at the SWLC in Mississauga, ON.

I feel good... just tired and shoulder pain. Just about ready for me first post-op shower and some nice yummy chicken broth

Had my surgery last Tues... Yesterday I was okay, now I woke up feeling very nauseous, trying to drink slimfast blended with little milk (to reduce thickness) because it has nutritions in it, that I've been missing out for the past 3 days. I'm feeling so weak and it's hard to drink and not feel like throwing up...

any advices please?!

I tried calling my dr's office to speak with a nurse, but they aren't open til 9 or 10 am.

Are you drinking your Water? ? When I went to my preop seminar on Monday, the nutritionist said that if we do not get the h2o in like we should , we start dehydrating and that causes nausea. Be sure you are drinking your liquids.< /p>

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Let us know how you are doing and what the Dr. says.

Cheryl

Just checking in to say hi. Day two of my pre-op liquid diet. Headache and feeling weak - this is NOT fun. But I WILL do it.

Congrats to all the newly banded - and to those still waiting like me, hang in there!

I have alot of gas pain but no nausia. i have a red spot under my steri strips where the port is and i have another red spot a couple of inches down from that and to the right. I am asssuming that is where the band is. Is it normal to have these red spots?

Obviously I'm not drinking enough because I got so sick today.. Was feeling very nauseous, every time I took a sip of something it made me feel like I wanna throw up. Called the nurse and says its normal- cuz my body is used to a lot of calorie intakes now I'm not taking calories as I sld so my body is reacting and changing so I have to keep drinking 64oz of liquids a day. I will be on liquid diet for 2 weeks to give my stomach time to heal before moving on to the puree stage. My roommate went to the store and got me Gatorade and liquid Tylenol - so I am sitting here drinking Gatorade, feeling little bit of same thing but less nauseous than earlier. Hopefully it'll be a better day tomorrow.

Oh yea, I lost 17 lbs since my pre-op diet!!:thumbup:

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
