Way to go Haydee!!!!!!!

I obviously am not a fan of the band. Not sorry I got it, but not thrilled. I don't think I ever would do a bypass. I got an unfill and am eating are you ready for this? Carrots!! Yes, the girl that hates carrots is now eating baby carrots, but I couldn't eat any raw vegetables before my unfill. I did have 7 cc's in my 10 cc band, now I think it is 4.5 or 5 cc's. It still gives me a bit of restriction, but I am pretty happy with it.

Thinking of you Michelle!!

Good evening, Violets..

Haydee.... kudos for the -2#!!! You're doing all the right things now.

I am one who still is so thankful for my band, even though I'm not at goal yet. I never could have lost what I have and kept it off for almost 3 years now without the band. I've lost weight before many times, but always gained it all back and more. My band is doing exactly what I expected it to do. I just have to constantly remind myself that it is just a tool and I am responsible for getting my head in the game.

We had chinese for dinner tonight and I had the buffet. I had a few bites of several things and was totally full. In my previous life I would have had two or three platefuls and still have been hungry in a couple of hours.

I did 30 minutes on the glider today while watching The View. Now that Ethan only comes on Thursday and Friday and goes home by 1:30, I don't have any excuse for not getting in my exercise each day. The time flies by while I'm watching tv. I'm getting a mini-roller trainer for my trike so I can make it into a stationary bike and still be able to trike no matter what the weather.

Off to watch the basketball game and then read some more of the Stephen King book. I'm on page 510 now... only 550 pages to go!!!

Everyone have a good evening. sleep well!

Hey girlies...

Thank you so much for your good thoughts & prayers... they are like a hug.

We're muddling along. I probably haven't mentioned, and I don't have a long time to go into it all now, but there is no service/memorial/wake... nothing... for MIL. It's my ILs quirkiness coming through... I could give examples of it for hours and you'd still think it was odd, so, let it be. She's being cremated & her ashes spread out West in the fall.

But the lack of a focus point for the grief / mourning, giving folks somthing to do / somewhere to go / a way to be together, to share, to cry, etc... is *very* strange! It's an angle of "ritual" that I never considered before. It leaves one in this odd netherworld of feelings w/no idea how to process it. It's difficult for me, and I think for the kids, as well, as they are even less-familiar with the "usual" course of events after a death. It's this whole nebulous spot that we're in... very odd.

My SIL did create a nice letter that we're going to send out (my FIL objecting all the way, but I think we've convinced him). There's an "imorial" site that folks can go to to leave memories, thoughts, etc., a sort of virtual wake, and perhaps that will serve to fill the void.

So things have been a bit quirkity here. The kids are doing ok. We're doing our normal, too-many-activities-crammed-into-the-day routine today. Starbucks here I come!!

Love you all!!!

Good morning, Violets..

I read until midnight last night, then watched yet another Golden Girls episode and zonked out until 9:30 this morning. The Bobster is out getting his hair cut and I'm, of course, at the computer checking all my messages.

It is supposed to get into the 40's today so we will be raking the back yard and getting rid of all the dead stuff from winter. I'm counting on warm weather from here on out.

Michelle.. so good to talk to you yesterday. It's been a tough few weeks for you and I'm glad we could all be here for you.

Off to hop on the glider and get that done before the Bobster gets back.

Everyone have a good weekend. Spring Break for PamELa.. Wooo hooooo!!!

Mornin' Girls~

Michelle, I understand about NOT wanting to do anything. For my mom, there were 6 people and we saw the casket, then went across the street to put it in the ground. My bro and I invited two guys that my mom has known since we were all kids, Marc and Robert. Robert's mom died when he was 7 and Marc's mom died while my mom was sick. The rest of the 6 was me, bro, bro's gf, and the baby (4 weeks old). None of her friends were even told about it until after. It was what just felt right.

For my dad's passing, there was no "service" but he was cremated and my step mom threw a HUGE party. A catered lunch for 150 people, and everyone drank Jack Daniels (dad's favorite), and there were macadamia nuts EVERYWHERE (dad's idea). We all got drunk and laughed, cried, shared stories and really partied like it was going out of style! Two complete opposites for the same event. Both were perfect...there are no rules.

Thinking of you and your family. How is FIL doing? My heart breaks for him!

Well, the first afternoon of break was wonderful! I read my book out by the pool, wearing pj's, then came in and took a nap! Just really relaxed.

Today we are going to the commissary about an hour away. I am hoping to be home to go to mass at 4pm for Palm Sunday. I am going to a new church out here just to check it out.

Then at 6 we are going out to dinner w/ our real estate agent!!

My back is still killing me. I had a reaction to the electric stim machine and can't wear it:confused: had that, it felt soo good. Hopefully, I'll get to wear it a bit later today!

Thanks Heather for the info. I should do some research but it helped having a friends input. I am very successful in every aspect of my life, except this weight loss thing! Work in progress!

Just wanted to try to add my pip about the sleeve for you Pam. I did a lot of quick research there when I was trying to figure it out. I actually called and talked to a few LBT members who converted (and I hold stock in their opinion, especially since they've done both). And one of them is not a big hero around here, but she actually lost more than enough with the band but still converted.

The biggest thing I loved to hear; the restriction is constant, and the restriction is consistent. No being able to only eat a twig in the morning, but by night time you can have a feast. Hormones won't change it either (me too Heather, since having Carson my hormones really screw with my band).

They said the hardest part was 'chugging' Water, you absolutely can't and they actually miss that-- I could probably relate to that if I had the sleeve!!

The other WONDERFUL thing that--for me who has had all these complications--I really want it for.. There are NO complications beyond 3m. This is unlike any other bariatric surgery. In the first 3m, you can pull a stitch and your stomach leak. They keep you on Nexium for the first 3m to keep your acid from building up and possibly messing with it. The doctor I was looking at does a fluero every day for the first 3 days to make absolutely sure there's not a drop of leak from surgery. THen the next 3m is all up to you. If you stick to the diet and take the meds, you will heal fine. After 3m-- NO COMPLICATIONS!!! It can't break, slip, rotate, flip, blow up, nothing. That's a huge bonus to me.. I am out about 35k now with my band, and the original surgery was 13k.. isn't that sick?!

You are not bypassing nutrients (which I worry about with RnY). I have talked to my doc's patients in the waiting room that had RnY, many of them with horrible horror stories of always being sick and having to be hospitalized. People die from RnY from malnutrition after the surgery.. People only die from lap-band & sleeve with a complication from surgery.

They have a Sleeve Talk forum just like this one where you can look around, read about complications, people who converted from band, etc.. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery (VSG) Forum

And if you want to call and talk to some LBT people who converted, let me know. They are very happy with it and I'll put you guys in touch!!

I AM converting to it eventually. Whenever I have the $$ and after baby #2. My mom said she'll be more open to it if I promise to wait until after the 2nd baby, even though the sleeve doesn't hurt nutrition it makes her nervous, so I agreed to wait.

Hello

Was supposed to go to dinner and that was canceled.

Should work on my taxes.

I pulled a strange muscle the other day in my lower shoulder/chest. It is on the right side and I don't know what I did. I must have done it Thursday, Friday it hurt, yesterday was the worst and today I can tell it is getting better. It is just in a really strange place and wonder what I did....(And for all the dirty minds out there, no hanky panky for me last week!!)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
