Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Thanks... I needed that. I shut my eyes and imagined that we were together and you really were giving me a hug. Sigh.

Bad, long night. Couldn't sleep. Tossed & turned. Turned & tossed. Kept hearing FIL's footsteps on the floorboards above us. I finally couldn't take it any more, so I got up around 4:30a, but all was quiet.

So I took a long hot shower and dressed, came upstairs, got out my computer, and started surfing & working. I seriously thought that perhaps MIL had passed in the night... wished that she had... the oxygen machine is off... all is quiet. But then a moan breaks the silence of the sleeping house. A moan and a cry and a plea. I sit here with my own moans, cries, and pleas... that she go... be free... be at peace... end her indiginities and suffering and be able to begin her soul's next journey... off to a better place, right?

The kids & I are leaving about 8a this morning... have to get ds back for his ref recert course... life goes on. DH is going to stay 'til this eve at least, depending on how the day goes.

I love each of you!

Good morning, Violets..

Michelle.. you are in my thoughts and prayers. I will be offering up special prayers for your MIL during church today. I know from experience how difficult this time can be. Know that I am with you in spirit and God will be waiting to welcome your MIL home when it is time.

Michelle, that was a moving post!! Hugs and special prayers to you and your whole family!

I did a quick weigh in this morning, and I have really lost, I wonder if it is the apple stuff.....I think really it is nice to 'blame' it on that, but I was stuck at the same weight for a while, it was bound to move soon. Go to Dr. tomorrow and see for real.

Good evening, Violets..

Well, the concerts are over and done and I'm so pleased. Now I can rest up from rehearsals for awhile. Well, at least until Thursday when the flute quartet rehearses again. I have 2 weeks off from New Day Singers.

The flute concert went very well. We end our concert with the flutes playing along with the piano while I sing May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You. Apparently it struck a chord in people's hearts because there were a lot of tears in the audience and our alto flute player was crying while she was playing. I hope it wasn't a bad review of my singing!!! Actually the whole program was great and I'm so proud of the group.

Michelle.. thinking of you and your family this evening.

Everyone be good to yourselves and sleep well.

Hey girls~

Michelle...keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted.

Judy...congrats on having finished up the concerts.

Been tired, lazy, and busy all day. I threw a pork roast in the crocker, but Sus didn't like it much. I followed a recipe. It was ok...not great.

1 onion cut up

1 bell pepper seeded and cut up

1/4 cup sugar

2 tblsp soy sauce

4 tblsp red wine vinegar

1 tblsp minced garlic

3 tblsp ketchup

Mix all the liquid w/ sugar. place onion and bell pepper in crock and place roast on top. (I added 1/2 cup of Water too). Then pour mixture over it. Cook on high 4-5 hours. Serve over egg noodles.

Plenty of leftovers if ya'll wanna come over, lol. Sus hurt her back yesterday so we are headin' to the cuzzi.

Saw Alice in Wonderland last night, it was great!!! We really enjoyed the "escape" and we saw it at the IMAX in 3d. Very cool movie!

Good morning, Violets...

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood too. It's only 18 degrees here now, but it's going to get up to 48 today.

I have my hospital volunteer shift this morning and Community Chorus rehearsal this evening with nothing planned in between except some exercise.

I bought a ton of clothes from Fashion Bug Saturday and 90% of them don't fit.. ;o((( But they WILL in a month.

Ethan comes at 9:30 so his mom can do a Zoomba class, but I'll miss him since I'll be at the hospital.

I bought him several books Saturday, so Grampa will have fun reading with him.

Everyone be good to yourselves.

Janie.. I'm anxious to hear how you did. Sounds like you're losing a lot!! You GO, GIRL!!

Hello!!!

I think I am doing real good, but need to exercise more!!

Did some of my taxes last night, not too bad yet...Business has been soo slow I decided I would buy a program and do it myself. So if it works, I saved $150 doing it by myself, if it doesn't I will have to pay an extra $250 to get them done by a real smart person!! I have about a month!!

Michelle I am thinking about you!

Laura, saw Carson was sick again!!!!!!! Sorry!!!

Life goes on! Back to regular Monday routine, lots to do & catch up on.

I feel a bit guilty for the "break" of "normal" life while the end plays out up in NJ... but what else is there to do? Unless we hear otherwise, at least dh, & maybe both of us, will go back up Th or F for the weekend. DH told me that the fact that I'm able to keep things running smoothly here, and the kids' lives can proceed as usual, is a great comfort to him, so if he wants me to go up, I'll go; but if he wants me to be w/the kids, then that's what I'll do.

What is the magic elixir that you're taking, Janie? That's what I need -- magic!!

Everyone enjoy today!

Judy I meant to add this, I like some of Fashion Bugs clothes, the bad thing is their sizing!! I always have to try things on their, sometimes I could take a much smaller size, or sometimes I would take a HUGE size! It is like Karen Scott shirts, sometimes I take a 1x, 2x, or 3x!

You know Michelle, I hope that this magic keeps me motivated! As you know this is a mind game totally! I hope for the motivation to always be there!!!

Happy Monday everyone!!!

I am starting to wonder if Ayla will be an early walker. She is only 9 months and she is already pulling up and walking along everything. She also is balancing with only one hand on things most of the time . . . but she does lose her balance when she tries to stand and take a sip of something, lol. I guess it will happen when it happens, there is no rush. It is so unusual right now because she is so mobile - she actually follows me around now, lol.

Good mornijng ladies. Had a wonderful, albeit busy, weekend.

Michelle, your post made me cry. When my grandmother was hooked up to a million machines for YEARS I always cried and wished for her release and always felt guilty for feeling like that. Now that I'm older I realize that that was a very mature unselfish feeling for a little girl, which I was at the time. My continued prayers with you and your family.

Janey! You are doing awesome!! Keep up the great work! You deserve it plus much more...

Pammy, how did you like alice in wonderland? I was gonna go see it but haven't had time. Are u all unpacked? If you are then you are superwoman! We had unpacked boxes in our garage for yaers after we moved in...

Judy, I used to love fashion bug but then they closed all of them here...I'm surre your clothes will fit you before you know it...

Heather, so cute about ayla! She is getting so big so fast. Both our lapband babies are! Please post more pics, I miss her sweet face!

I started bootcamp this morning and I'm so sore. Its gonna kick my butt. I'm noshing on some greek yogurt with granola now. I had a scrambled egg for Breakfast. I'm gonna try to do six small meals a day and see how that works for me... my hand is killing me typing on this phone... love y'all lots always... be back later

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
