Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Laura - I hate when something out of my control affects my work. I hate hate hate that. Nowhere near as important as your deal but it happens all the time at the wedding place. One time they put these horrid table cloths down with no seam for an event that i was having. I told them they looked horrible and had no seams but they just said, OH well, hopefully the bride won't notice. UGH, makes me so frustrated.

Judy! So scary about Ethan but glad he's ok. And that statistic was funny! I'll make sure my parents have the poison control center on speed dial at their house too!

Michelle - that hat you made was so cool! I'm sure your son loved it. It looks so warm and yet fashionable!

Jane - I'm so glad you are still sticking with this and not giving up. You make me not want to give up! Sometimes I just say, well, my body wants to be at 250 and I might as well just resign myself to that. And then I come on and hear how everyone is just plug plug plugging along and it makes me want to do it too. I'm drinking my Water right now and will hit the gym tonight when I get home.

Laura - aww that picture is one of my favorites. His face is like sunshine. And WAY TO GO on your food diary. You are doing awesome!

Heather - I want to get a flip too! I love it now that I know how easy it is to work... We need updated Ayla pics, haven't seen her in a bit...

My head is pounding right now. I ran out of tylenol so I had to take two advil. I don't know what's making it hurt so bad.

Oh and I haven't been sleeping so great lately with everything going on. I really need to just shut my brain off but I can't! In my head I'm thinking about all I need to do at work, and then with the upcoming weddings, then with my own wedding. Can anyone recommend a safe, non addicting sleeping pill that won't leave me groggy in the morning? I think I need to take them for the next few weeks. Just until my spring break. After spring break I think it will be better. Everything will fianally start coming together...

Oh and Judy - I miss your hot tub tales, LOL... You hardly use it anymore!

Anyone know, can you bake a cake in a roasting pan? I can't figure out why not, but wanted to see if anyone knows for sure. I need to make an extra tall cake, and want the dimensions of the roasting pan (with 2x boxes of mix in it).

Any thoughts??

Whew!! Glad to see a happy Carson again!! Makes me smile when I see him.

Just got back from the luncheon. I didn't stay to watch the gifts being opened, nor had any dessert....sigh. But came home and had a paczki. (polish donut specially for Fat Tuesday) Now it's stuck. Today is Fat Tuesday and I am going to exemplify the day! Tomorrow is day one of 40 days of no sweets, minimal carbs and no slothfullness.

Ethan is here and doing fine. I bought him a Spiderman cartridge on Ebay for his V-Tech, but he left the V-Tech in the car so he's been bugging me ever since the cartridge came in the mail today. It's gonna be a longggggggg day!

i'm giving up coke for lent. coke and slothfullness.... sigh. today i'm having my last coke...

laura - i don't see why it wouldn't work. the only problem i can foresee happening is that it might not rise as high as you need it and instead be a little bit more dense rather than fluffy. I think they might make those cake mixes with a pre-determined amount of leveling powder so that it rises about the size of an average pan. Again this is just me thinking out loud... Michelle i think might know.

Laura, I have cooked extra large Desserts or cake in a roasting pan before. It works but with cake there is a risk that it may be a little underdone in the middle or overdone on the ends. The other issue that has happened is that sometimes it is not flat but domes a little in the center. I always make extra tall cakes by cooking two with a layer of icing in the middle. If the pan is greased well, they come out pretty easy and it is less risk.

As for the order, I would get on the phone with production and see if there is anyway possible they can rerun the batch with correct trimming. Even if you have to go up a little higher and explain your dilemma, I wouldn't let it go if a customer will be negatively impacted. I think the 'I hope they don't notice' approach is faulty at best.

Ok what is Fat Tuesday? I thought someone made that up, but since you guys said it too?!?!

I actually want a denser cake, that's next on my list is finding out how to make a denser cake (so far I saw adding sour cream helps this, not sure what portion though.)

I'm just getting a head start on his 1st b'day party lol. I am making Veggietale cakes (he loooove Veggietales).. 1 cucumber larry for everyone, then a small 6" bob for his cake. The larry is the big one I need, I'm going to cut a cucumber out of an extra large rectangle cake.. and the denser the better. The doming.. I get that in any cake I make, I normally just slice it off.

This is what I HOPE it comes out looking like heh..

Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, which starts the beginning of Lent. Mardi Gras ends today (well in the middle of the night tonight), then all the Catholics start their Lenten period. That is when Jesus went for 40 days and 40 nights w/o food or water...that is why we give something up.

off to do teenbiz3000 in the mac lab...hate mac puters.

That's so cute, Laura! My kids enjoyed Veggie Tales when they were little... gosh, they've been around that long? The fav was the "pirates who don't do anything"! I've never tried to bake a cake in a roasting pan, but thanks for the props, Haydee! I'd probably do what Heather said, 2 layers of a 13 x 9" cake. The only cake I've used sour cream in is Bundt cakes... don't know if it's the pan that makes them puff up like that or not, but you're right, they're usually denser than a regular pan cake.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Fat Tuesday" is the English translation of "Mardi Gras"... the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. pancakes and other baked goodies, like kinklings here in our area, are the traditional food of the day. A lot of churches will have big pancake suppers tonight. I think the idea is that you're supposed to use up all the fat/lard/sugar in the pantry before the 40 days of Lent, when you're not supposed to be indulging in such gourmet badness! I'm doing the whole pancakes for dinner thing tonight.

I know, Veggietales been around a long time, *I* liked them as a kid!!! I found all the old Silly Songs--that I use to sing with, and he likes dancing to the videos.

I'm going to look up recipes closer to time, just trying to decide if I need to buy a big cake pan (I haven't found one yet when googling), but I thought about using the roasting pan.

Re: Fat Tuesday---I knew it sounded familiar. Now I remember the baby in the cake in French class.

I was gonna say, I'm Fat Mon-Sun...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
