Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Hey Girls~

Judy...so glad your back, cant wait to hear all about the trip! Walking!!! OMG...is Carson walking too?? No rest for you ever again!

Back is still a bit painful. I am really trying to rest it and haven't worked out since Friday. I think that is ok because I worked out Friday w/ a very hurt back...that made it so bad Friday.

When I was banded, I was told that this would take about 50% of my weight loss away. Like, I wanted to lose 100 lbs and that I would probably lose 50 lbs. That is exactly what I was told. I was still happy w/ that because I didn't want the other surgery at all. I lost 30 then gained about 10 back...and I bounce around at that #. But honestly, if I didn't get the band, I'd be 30 pounds heavier (10 pound @ 3 years)...and I was smoking. My band doc flatly said he would NOT work w/ a smoker. So, I am still happy...but yes, I'd like to lose more. It is my responsibility, plain and simple.

Gonna be a rainy week all week...I guess winter has arrived!

Yes, we are off today. We did nothing all weekend...time to go to store etc!

have a great day girls!

xooxxoxo

Hello, Haydee you are soo sweet. You always know what to say!!!!!!!!!! I too was told the band would help me lose half of my weight. But, you know I am about ten pounds over the weight of when I got the band....... I just need self control, PERIOD!!!

I am supposed to go to my investment club meeting and really don't want to go.

Okay I guess Haiti is fading because CNN just mentioned Lisa Marie and Michael Jackson filed for Divorce this day many years ago...........

Alright off to do something?

jane - how is your restriction? are you restricted at all? are you eating lots of Cookies and ice cream? let us help you! share what you eat and maybe this could be your log? that way you can see what you're doing... no one here judges any of us on what we are eating and doing. we just share share share... i know it helps me to write it down and committ to it. like when i was cleaning up after christmas. i told ya'll about it, committed to it so then i knew i had to do it and finish so i can say to ya'll "it's done!". like ya'll care! but it helps me...

I can honestly say that sticking to a food diary helped me lose most of my weight. However, I haven't kept one in so long . . . it is too much work with everything else. I guess I need to prioritize.

OK, I am guilty, I must admit. I got behind and didn't want to post until I read the last couple pages but just didn't have time. I don't have a clue what has gone on the last few days so all I can say is hello to everyone, lol.

I am in the same boat as a lot of others . . . I am not drinking enough Water, the gym people have probably forgotten my face by now (although I am getting exercise clicking on send so that they get my payment every month). I am not weighing regularly and am not losing anything. I am at least 10 pounds off from where my signature says I am.

Lack of any real restriction has made the last six months really difficult. I need to jump back on the wagon before it leaves me behind.

I hope everyone is having a happy new year so far. :0)

You know the only thing I am good at is drinking Water. I actually think I am too good. It is very hard for me not to drink with meals.

So far today I have had

one bagel with butter

lean cuisine dinner

We all have to start somewhere, right?

Piehole report:

Breakfast - Half a piece of Cheesecake Factory Peanut Butter cup cheesecake

Lunch - Soujouk (turkish beef sausage) & eggs along with about 1/2 a cup of Louisiana chicken Pasta from the Cheesecake Factory from the day before.

Snack - Peanut butter cookie with reese's on it with a sugar cookie with frosting.

Water - About 8 ounces consumed after reading Haydee's post about Water directly above my post. If only peer pressure could keep me on the wagon all the time, lol.

Drinkables (Non Water) - About 4 cups of coffee and 1 cup of tea . . . can I just make believe that this is water and that the caffeine is not going to dehydrate me?

How do I feel about it? - Like a pile of poo drizzled with mounds of guilt

So after this lovely day of eating crap, I need to scrape my self-esteem up off the floor and move on with it. Perhaps a nice low-cal salad for supper might do nicely(although I feel those old feelings of "I already goofed up so screw it, lets go out for something really bad for dinner).

So I am committing publicly that I am going to end the rest of this day on a positive note and make a semi reasonable decision for dinner. One step at a time . . .

Janie,

I am curious about your restriction level. I can't hope to eat a bagel right now unless I nurse on it for hours and am still not quite restricted enough. I also can't drink with meals because it causes me to pb.

Do you think you might just be too loose to get the benefits of feeling banded?

heather - you know what, you have to take it one hour at a time sometimes, LOL. I would agree, do a sensible thing for dinner. I'm so guilty of letting one bad meal dictate another bad meal. If I screwed up then let's leave it and try to do good for the next one...

My piehole report:

Breakfast - strawberry/banana activa yogurt with 2 Tablespoons of granola mixed in

lunch - 1 cup of macaroni Pasta Soup made with turkey and potatoes and carrots and of course macaroni.

Dinner - we are gonna go eat paella at my aunt's house. I'm gonna stick to just eating the Protein (shrimp, mussels and chicken)

I've had 32 oz of Water and working on my next 32 and by bedtime will have consummed 96...

One step at a time....

Good evening, Violets...

ahhhhhh, finally got done reading all the posts. Sorry I missed Michelle, but she's going to have a great time, just like we did.

And I ate like a real Bandster!!! On all other cruises I would have sweet bread for breakfast with eggs and bacon, Cookies for snack at least 3-4 times a day, pastries and Desserts after every dinner. This time I made it may goal to never eat as much as Kathy, our cruising buddy and the lady that has lost 93# with the band since Oct. of 08. Wellllll I had one sugar free cookie and 1/2 a regular cookie for the entire cruise. I never ate more than Kathy and for dessert most nights I had sherbet. I didn't snack in between meals and had only one piece of sweet bread for the whole cruise. I am weighing in tomorrow morning to see how I did. I just saw some pics on Facebook that my friend took and I am very disappointed in how I look. The 17# I gained from my lowest weight sure show. BUT, I stayed good and I am going to be at goal for the wedding. Bob wants to go back to get a fill in February so I need to make that appointment.

Just finished 3 loads of laundry and I need to head to bed. Ethan and I are going to take care of Grady tomorrow. I have tons of pics to post, but won't get to them until mid-week at the earliest.

So glad to be back. I sure missed you all!! Everyone sleep well!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
