Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon, Violets..

Grady was here for an hour and now Ethan is here for the rest of the afternoon. Gramma is going to be tired tonight!!

Three Cups of Tea is by Greg Mortenson and he builds schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It's a good read. Says a lot about the Muslim culture and how we can't categorize a whole ethnic group because of one faction. Sort of like categorizing all Christians because of the fundamentalist right wingers.

I'm now started on Patrick Swayze's book. I know it's gonna be a tear jerker.

Another good eating day here. I think I've weaned myself away from the sugar. I'm not craving it anymore. I had an egg and a sausage patty for Breakfast and some leftover turkey, potatoes, stuffing, gravy and salad for lunch. Turkey noodle Soup for supper and then we leave in the morning for Detroit and the Piston's game.

Laura - WOW, that's it? for the whole thing?? That's an awesome price...

Pamela - oh i have plenty of those, belive me, LOL. But the problem is that I don't want any of my guests to have to miss anything because they are worried about making sure things are going smoothly. And I don't want to worry one bit that day. I just need someone who has done this before and who knows what to do in case of something going wrong. Rather than calling me when the liquor doesn't show up, I'd rather them get on the phone with someone else and arrange for liquor to show up. Know what I mean??

Yeah that price was for everything.. well, everything she does. I had to pay for like the DJ, stuff, etc.. but it was $600 for her coordinating. And she was to be there the day of the wedding to sign off on things, get everything organized. I thought it was kind of expensive LOL. Right off the bat though, she had complete opposite opinions of the FEW things I knew I wanted, so she rubbed me the wrong way.. she would try to convince me why I need to do it the way she thinks.. but in any event, we ended up not having that wedding!

It's true, get a good friend to help!!

Nice flooring Laura!! Want to get hardwood on my floors in the next year or so. Will you come and take before and after pics? Those were great!!

I am going to cut up gumdrops for these Cookies I make, I have tried everything possible to make it easier, a cheap egg slicer works, but I couldn't find any cheap egg slicers, it usually takes a few, so I am going to cut them up to make after work tomorrow...........

Good morning, Violets..

We're off to Detroit and the Pistons game. It's on tv at 3:00 here. Look for us in the first row behind the bench and off to the side a smidge. I'll have on my blue Piston's shirt and Kris will be the one jumping up and down and trying to kiss Tayshaun Prince, her all time Piston's idol.

Everyone have a wonderful New Year's Eve. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Jane - YUM! your gum drop Cookies are going to turn out so pretty with all those colors. Are you mixing them into the batter or just putting them across the top?

Judy - have so so much fun and be careful driving!

Ugh, I'm here at work this morning. NOT fun! I work a full day then I have to get home and I'm in charge of making a brocoli, rice cheese casserole and then horseradish mashed potatoes for our party tonight. I hope I get to go home early. I still want to stop and do my nails. There is no way in heck I'm gonna accomplish all this before 7pm, which is what time I need to be at my parents house for the party...

I'm so so so excited. All of Juan's family will be joining us so there is no going back and forth. It'll just be one big party! YAY!

Happy Last Day of 2009!~~

This is it! The last day! Tomorrow is a brand-spankin' new year AND.... most importantly... Haydee's wedding year!!! So excited to rip the wrappings off 2010 and see where it takes us! When 2009 started, I didn't know I was going to get a fabu trip to Cali this year -- or a Disney trip -- so you never know where we'll end up this year!! Anything is possible!!

HAYDEE!! Santa must've finally recovered from his trip around the world last week and made a second round, because when we got home yesterday, a certain package was waiting for me on my porch! THANK YOU!! How did you know that my hands are a mess this winter? All dry and flaky and cracking... ugh! But I love the soap and lotion! I never splurge on things like this for myself... they're perfect! Thank you!!

Woke up to another inch of snow on the ground... crazy winter so far!

We're working in the office today... changing out the 2009/10 files and working on my biz reports for taxes, etc... fun, fun! No plans for tonight... probably watch a movie, watch Rockin' NY Eve... I'm feeling so old! DS & his g'friend are going to their first NY Eve party... & so it goes...

Pam, rock it out w/KC tonight!

Judy, I'm going to watch the game & look for you!!

Laura, the floors look great!!

Haydee, Janie, Heather, Suzy... have a great day, eve, and everyone --

Embrace the New Year!

Yeah I can't bring myself to put alcohol in his mouth lol.

His bottom teeth weren't this bad I swear, but this top tooth oh my goodness. He was screaming, literally without pause for 12 hours yesterday, no matter what I did. Made me feel bad cause mommy can't comfort him

Isn't that what mommies are suppose to do??

I got him benadryl though. We couldn't find infants, so I figured they don't make it. He has bad hives

So I googled and found out they just pulled it since people abused benadryl for babies. So I bought the children's, and gave him a dose so small it probably won't help. His back is really bad this morning with hives.

Going home from work early today since it's dead on holiday times. Friends coming over tonight so I gotta clean and cook snacks!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun one tonight.

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR

Michelle - I'm so glad you liked it. It's my favorite lotion and soap and I find that lavender scent just intoxicating. They have a whole line of all natural products that I love.

Laura - oweee, poor bebe Carson. Didn't know they pulled baby benadryl. On tv I always hear about people joking about giving their children benadryl so they could pass out and I always thought, they are just putting ideas into crazy peoples heads. And sure enough, they did. WOW, some people are just nuts. I hope he feels better soon. I wish I could help with some magical natural remedy but when I asked my mom she said whiskey too, LOL...

I seriously can't wait to get out of here. I'll be off for FIVE DAYS!!! YAY YAY YAY YAY...

Meeting the florist on Saturday and the coordinator on Monday. Mariachi on Tuesday. Everything is just coming together...

Aaaaaaaahhhhh, I can't wait!

Actually they pulled baby "just about everything" because people are not very smart about what they give (or really it is how much they give) their babies. Baby tylenol and a few items for digestive upsets are all that is left.

I know people who have used baby benadryl for very long international flights. If they follow correct dosage and it is only used for this purpose on an extremely intermittent basis, it doesn't seem like the worse thing you can do even though I would not do it with Ayla.

Ayla will be traveling the globe in 2010. I think she should be walking by the time we go. I have to admit that I am a little nervous about telling a little one who wants to go, go, go that they have to sit, sit, sit for 11 hours is a little intimidating. I plan on combatting this by carrying bags full of attention getting activities . . . but who knows if we will survive the experience, lol.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
