Gas gas everywhere

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I have been on this site several of times just doing research before the banding, but just never took the time to register. I was banded and came home on Aug. 28, 2009. It wasn't too horrible of a procedure, the worst part for me was the gas and left shoulder which is where the port is. Today, I began phase 2 of the diet which is thicker liquids. I haven't been starving like I thought I would have been and I guess since the swelling around the band I have only been able to eat an ounce at the time. It is so wierd to have the full feeling :)(I have never felt it before unless I made myself miserable). I had a problem with being stopped up and took milk of mag. last night and now I'm no longer stopped. I have had a good bit of gas lately. Am I going to always be very gassy or will this past with time?

Hi and welcome. Isn't it wonderful to not feel like you are starving all the time and wanting to eat? I love that feeling, it gives you such a sense of control.

Milk of Magnesia was definitely my friend during the first two months of banding. As for being gassy, that, along with the Constipation will pass (pun not intended) after you move into regular foods and your body begins to adjust to all of the changes it has gone through.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
