Any good scar remedies?

Recommended Posts

I just got my band, and my doctor put one of the incisions just under my belly button to hide it. But the other three are pretty noticeable.

I was just wondering if anyone has found any good scar creams or ointments? I'm pale and I scar pretty easily.

neosporin is great while you are healing and time will fade them. They look pretty angry and red in the begining. Just dont expose them to the sun. Fresh scars turn brown when they get sun exposure

I always understood that you shouldn't put any ointments or creams on fresh incisions. Check with you doctor before using anything on them. You don't want to risk infection.

I only used alcohol wipes to make sure they stayed dry and clean. I am 9 weeks post op and my incision are slightly pink, two of the smaller ones you can hardly see anymore.

I again with Tricia on the Vitamin E, the PS at my doctors office also said to try CVS brand scar gel. I have used it now for 6 weeks and I have noticed my scars smoothing out and fading, but that could also come from time. But either way, I figure it can't hurt. Good luck.

Wait until the incisions are healed. Don't put anything on them until your doc says it's ok. Don't want to infect them.

I agree that vit e is the best. If you can swallow a vit-e gel cap now, go ahead.

Also, Walmart sells a vit-e oil in their Vitamin section. You can rub it on your incisions. I also put it on my face at night. It's great in fighting wrinkles. Just lightly wet your face first before applying the oil or it's be all gloppy and thick. The wee-bit of Water draws it into the skin instead of it just coating the skin.

Remember wait until you are healed.

I was told not to put anything on my scars until all the scabs were gone. Now that they are, I have also been putting Vitamin E on my scars. Good luck!

Like so many of the other posts, I was told not to put anything on the incision until it was healed, then use Vit E oil. I have the capsules, and prick it with a pin to get the oil out. I'm going to try Kristine's suggestion to spalsh a little Water on it first.

I was just wondering if anyone has found any good scar creams or ointments? I'm pale and I scar pretty easily.

I'm a licensed esthetician and I know that

Rosehip Seed oil works wonders.

The others ladies are right though...

do not put it on an unhealed wound.

Rosehip Seed oil is just about pure Vitamin C

(also has vit A&E) and is great for scar prevention

and soothing out old scars...including stretch marks.< /p>

Emu Oil is great for helping scars soften and clear...

plus it's a deep penetrating carrier oil which means

it will carry other ingredients with it into the tissues.

So you could combine rosehip seed oil and emu oil together

for whopping scar remedy...but rosehip seed oil would be enough.

There have been numerous studies on Rosehip Seed oil.

Here's something you'll like.

"The first major confirmation of its capabilities came in 1983, when the University of Santiago conducted research on 180 individuals. These tests studied people with extensive facial scarring, acne scarring, deep wrinkles, UV damage, radiation damage, burn scars, surgical scars, premature aging, dermatitis, and other skin related problems. In these tests, rosehip seed oil regenerated the skin, reduced scars and wrinkles, prevented the advancement of wrinkles and aging, and helped skin to regain its natural color and tone. Since this time, other universities and labs have also completed studies, also yielding positive results. Another well-known study in 1988 was conducted on twenty women between the ages of 25-35 with extensive premature aging to their skin. Their skin was wrinkled, and had sun spots from overexposure to the sun. After four months of applying rosehip seed oil daily, their wrinkles and sun spots had almost completely disappeared, and the skin had a fresher and healthier look."

Massage into area for 20-30 seconds at least once a day.

It's a "dry" oil so will not leave a greasy residue.

NEVER apply to broken or irritated skin (or acne)!

I have read on several forums, women who have

used this and have completely "erased" their stretch marks.

You can buy it cheap online (ebay maybe) and the site below.

I don't work for this company, but have purchased many active ingredients from them.

They are AWESOME.

You will find other ingredients to add to your lotions, etc.

to boost tightening and smoothing.

If you are like me...you will get addicted.

www.skinactives.com

(4 oz. bottle for $11)

I hope I'm not breaking a rule by posting this link.

But this is one of my worries...loose skin and scars...

when I go get the lap band.

I'm in the boring "paperwork stage" right now.:)

I hope this info has given you hope!

You finally get a flat tummy

and it's covered in scars and stretch marks!

Who wants that, right?

Good luck!:wink2:

voodoo is right..rosehip oil is in the natural skincare line that i use and it works wonders! If you want to try that line as well, you can get it at Sephora. It's called KORRES and the product you would want is the Wild Rose Oil pen...

I've also used Mederma on other scars and they disappeared  HTH!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
