Congrats to u on everything, it's great to read all your posts and see that at the end you'r where you want to be. :)

I wanted to share my story with you about my thyroid nightmare.

I had a nodule on my right thyroid last year, it was making me choke on food and i had a raspy voice. They took samples from it to see if it was cancer, and it came back negative. They left it up to me if I wanted to have them taken off, I wanted them out (because of the choking). Well when the Dr. got in to take them out my thyroid was gray in spots and he removed the thyroid. When tested it came back cancer. So I went in a month later and had the other side (thyroid) removed. So good luck and ask alot of questions.

Thank you SO much for sharing your story!! I have a few nodules on the right side of my thyroid. This growth, however, is something new. My OB/GYN suggested that I go to the University of Chicago and see a thyroid specialist and a surgeon he knows. I'm waiting for the results of these tests before I do that. But after reading your story, I'm thinking that I should be prepared to get a second opinion and to have my thyroid removed. I'm a bit bummed b/c it is delaying my lap-band procedure... but then again, should it? I have a lot of questions and definitely need to see my surgeon.

Hello Everyone!! :w00t:

I wanted to drop in and keep you updated:

I went for my Esophogram and it was fine. I received Cardiac Clearance from my Cardiologist last week and had my yearly pap smear. I'm finished with all my pre-op testing. I will see my surgeon in the next week or two and will be having the surgery probably at the beginning of the year.

Why am I waiting til the beginning of the year?? I am having other health issues. I have a growth on my thyroid which is being tested for cancer. The doctors think it is the growth that attributed to my weight loss. I will know the results of the test this coming week and then I will be able to better access the situation and make a decision regarding surgery.

Thank you for your comments and support!!

Amy

Hey Girl, WOW, you sure have been a buzy bee getting through all those appointments. I will most certainly keep you in prayer until you get your surgery done...once and for all!

Keep in touch Miss Amy, you are sure an inspiration to me my friend.

Thanks Sue! I'm sure it is benign. The power of positive thinking! It's a very large growth and is protruding from my neck. I will most likely have to undergo surgery and/or radiation therapy to remove it either way. I'm a bit bummed that it is "getting in the way" of my surgery right now. But it's all good. BCBS gave me 180 days on my approval. So, I'm good til the end of March 2010. Thank you again!! I can't wait to join you ya'll!!!

Hi Everyone!!

I have some great news. According to my Endo, I don't have cancer! YAY!! :cool2: He said I have a goiter which can be surgically removed or treated with radiation. So, once I get this taken care of, I can move forward with the lap band procedure!!

Yes, I have experienced this. I lose weight very quickly when I "diet." Sustaining it is another issue. Isn't that what WLS is all about? A tool to help keep it off. That's the problem, I want to eat healthy not DIET. I am now slightly below my qualifying BMI but I know my history and chances of keeping the weight off are not good. So I am going the self pay route. My advice to you is find another doctor.

Thank you soo much for putting my thoughts into words!! I totally relate to everything you said. I'm sorry to hear that you have to go the self-pay route. I'll see my surgeon hopefully this week or next week. That's when I'll make my final decision on whether or not I should stay with him or find another one. I've done research and he is a great surgeon and a great doctor. I have faith in him. I just didn't like his "attitude" regarding my weight loss. So, I'll see how the next visit goes.

I have an appointment Tuesday morning with my surgeon. I should have a surgery date by tomorrow!! :tt2: I'm planning on the beginning of 2010, so that I can start the New Year off right. Everything is moving soo fast! I'm a bit flustered and scared, but excited too.

Did any of you experience these mixed feelings? I'm thinking that maybe I'm putting it off until Jan 2010 because deep down, honestly, I'm scared. This should be the best time of my life. I've been thinking about this for 3 years. I've been going through the process for 9 months. You've all been through my journey from August to the present. A lot has been thrown my way but I stood my ground and fought for what I wanted. So, why am I shrinking back in fear now?

I was expecting to be denied by my insurance company. But I wasn't. I did not know how long my pre-op testing would take. But it's done. I have thyroid problems. But it can be fixed. Now what's my problem?? I want this more than anything but I am scared. Did anyone else feel like this? And if you did, how did you cope? Thanks!

Amy

Hi Amy,

I just had my surgery last Monday 11-9-09 but before my surgery I did go through the same emotions and thoughts that you are going through. I think we go through them because it is the fear of the unknown, it is a huge change not being able to have food as your comfort, release, our best friend that is always there for us..... I scheduled my surgery as soon as my insurance approved it and here was my reasoning.... I had already met my deductible and out of pocket for this year so if I had it done before the end of the year it is covered at 100%, I wanted to be able to go camping this summer and feel be comfortable enough to wear shorts(yep not setting my standards high enough for swim suit :-) on the beach and not self conscious about it, and I also don't trust myself enough through the holidays not to pig out and have my "last supper" several times. It is going to be a long haul and alot of changes but with a postivie attitude and great support systems it is going to be awesome.

Hi Kate!

Thank you soo much for responding. I totally understand why you had your surgery right after your insurance approval. Had I been in your shoes, I would have done the exact same thing. However, I don't have to meet any deductibles. (That might be a bad thing because it is letting me "put this off.") My surgery will be covered 100% (no co-pays-- nothing). That's one reason I'm in no "rush" to get it done before the end of the year. Also, this is the busy time at work and I'm getting a lot of hours. It's sad to say, but where I work, if you request time off, they will punish you in the end by not giving you enough hours when you return. With Christmas around the corner, I need the money. My insurance is great on one hand but horrible on the other. It does not cover doctor office visits at all. I have to pay for all my doctor office visits and consults 100%. As you know, we have a lot of those to get to this stage. So, I need to work to pay off doctor bills before I have the surgery.

I admire your courage and conviction to have the surgery before the holiday season. I am positive that you will reach your goal weight by the time of your camping trip. Kate, you have attainable goals and you will achieve them. Thank you for helping to put my mind at ease. It is the fear of the unknown. And especially the fear of letting go of the food forever. I've done it for 9 months but this is it. Once this is done, there is no going back and I think that is what is frightening to me. But I don't want to go back... but back is comfortable in the sense that it is the only thing that I've known for the past 15 yrs or so. So, yes, Kate, you hit the nail on the head... I'm really scared of the unknown and losing my best friend... food. Thank you again for your honest reply. It helps to know that I'm not alone.

Amy!, I am so dissappointed with you!

DO NOT let another excuse come between you and your health, well being, and a new beautiful body!

Women particularly, will put everyone elses needs and whims and everything else before their own needs and desires.

You should be praising God that through all the adversity

and problems that this entire thread as seen you through, that He has cleared a path and helped you through in an amazingly fast and blessed way. All the love and caring, not to mention all the prayers spoken on your behave should override any inconsiderate store management who can't appreciate you as an employee and not just another worker. Does your job care if you get healthy, no...but do all of us who have, and are going through just exactly what you are feeling care? YES, YES, and YESSSSSS.

Sweetie, I am 1 week away from the surgery, and all those same fears and thoughts are ever present on my mind. Especially this time of the year, when my best friend is over advertized, when my friends named candy, Cookies and all holiday goodies are everywhere, even in the hardware stores for Pete's sake! When all holiday commercials and programming is all about a family gathered round a table full of food, when you cannot go anywhere at work without plates of homemade goodies, jars of candies, holiday recipes exchanging hands. Yeap, hard as this surgery is on everyone, I believe those of us who go through this at this time of the year deserve a extra kudo.

You can do this, you have come through so very much already do not allow anything or anyone to now come between you and health, after all isn't that what it is really about? You have rose above so much, please, make that date for as soon as you can,... do it, you will be eternally happy you did!

Hugs to you Miss Amy, and I hope you take this in the spirit it was intended.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
