Best protein powder?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I wanted to see what brand of Protein Powder would you guys recommend? The truth is, I have never tried any yet but I hear that a lot of them taste really bad and are hard to keep down. Is it hard to keep down because of the taste or the amount of Protein? Sorry for being so naive, Im new at this :)

There are a lot of choices of Protein powders out there. It all depends on what you are looking for in your Protein Powder. Do you want the very best quality, or 1 that is less expensive and will get you by? Do you want a high number of grams of Protein per scoop, or does that matter to you? Do you want to buy the powder locally, or do you want to order it online? Isopure and Max Protein are both very high in protein per scoop, and are the whey isolate, which is the best quality. They are both expensive though. unjury makes a good tasting powder that a lot of people tend to like. They also have an unflavored variety. Unjury is a little less expensive than the other 2, but has less protein grams per scoop. Walmart carries Body Fortress brand, but it has less protein per scoop. However, it's much cheaper than the others. You can order samples of the Unjury online to see if you like it first.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!

Joan

I LOVE Unjury! I drink the chocolate (mixed with fat free milk and 1/2 a serving of peanut butter) and the chicken Soup. I use the vanilla now and a again too. I personally think its SO good that it feels like cheating when I have my shakes. I honestly haven't really tried any other Protein powder. I feel very happy with the Unjury. And if you feel like its something you'll drink every month, you can put it on auto-order and they'll automatically ship to you every month, plus they reduce the cost if you do that program. I haven't signed up for it, but I think I may! Good luck with your decision!!

Hi. I don't buy Protein powders, bullets, shots, or drinks - other than my shake that I have to have for breakfast. Most of them are expensive and lots of them taste awful, or make whatever you mix them with taste bad. I did once, but now I just get my protein in with my meals. I only have to have 60 grams a day and at first I thought that would be hard to do... but it really isn't. I may not hit the 60 g. mark every day, but I'm close and I've quit stressing about it. Not sure protein is the answer to all band questions/problems that I once believed it was. Of course you should do what your surgeon tells you to do and what works for you. Good luck to you. Becky

I am a big fan of Isopure's Dutch chocolate Protein powder. A serving is 2 scoops and 50 g of Protein. I usually only mix 1 with Water, but I am not a huge fan of it, though it is less horrible than many of the others I've tried. It tasted like watery cocoa.

However...The reason I love it is because it is great to mix with things. Mix 1 scoop of it with a serving of nonfat greek yogurt and it is super yummy and gives you 41 g of protein.

I also use it in place of chocolate for guilt free treats (melt 1 cup of organic Peanut Butter, and pour over 1 cup of toasted oats, 1 cup of protein powder and add water/liquid protein to get your fav consistency and roll into balls and chill. Filling, full of protein and takes care of sweets craving. Makes about 26 balls.) I also used it in place of cocoa in a baked pear filled with chocolate roccota recipe.

I want to experiment with other protein powder flavors and see how else I can mix them in.

As you can see, I'd rather "eat" my protein powder than drink it.

I like EAS Protein powder. It comes in either whey or soy protein. I like that I can get it at Walmart. I have a mild allergy to whey Proteins. So, i am really glad there is a soy brand that is readily available and at a reasonable cost.

hi, I'm 2 weeks post op.

I've been drinking Protein shakes for the last 6 months, I already try Isopure dutch chocolate Low Carb(50grm), Isopure strawberry n cream Zero Carb(50g), Myoplex Light Vanila(25g), Myoplex Regular Strawberry(42g), Myoplex Deluxe strawberry (54g), Muscle Milk ready to drink shake 11onz (22g) Cookies n cream or banana.

The Isopure is the best to loose weight because is the one with less cal, carb , etc but the taste is not that good even mixed w fat free milk or Soy milk and is Whey Protein.< /p>

The Myoplex light is too thick, the myoplex deluxe too many cal not good for us, myoplex regular mixed w orange juice light Tropicana 50 is the best in flavor but have a few more cal than Isopure and is a mix of different Proteins.

The Muscle milk is the one i been drinking w the pre op diet and post op is rich in flavor it tastes like a milkshake it also have mix of dif Proteins but the downside is that have too many cal to fat.

My Favorite is the Myoplex Reg Strawberry mixed w the Tropicana 50 is very good and gives in total like 45grms of protein at once. Try it u wont regret it.

The Body Fortress from Walmart is pretty good. I like the vanilla, because you can mix it with almost any kind of fruit to make it yummy.

I am a HUGE fan of Syntrax Nectar Protein powder (got it online) They are fruit flavors vs vanilla or chocolate or "strawberry" - blech. My personal fav. is the carribean cooler, is like a pina colada to me. I do like the apple, I'm gonna try the fuzzy navel and cherry flavors next. The plus for me is that it is about 23 gms protein, 0 carbs and only 90 calories.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
