fill number 2(stuck food)

Recommended Posts

I have the 10cc band got my first fill in July 2cc and my tube contacting the port had .8cc, this time I got 1.4cc. I am trying to take it easy usually when it comes to eating soft foods, but I really wanted some meat, so I grab a slice of lunch meat, (ham), I didn't chew that well and that was my frist true experience of getting something stuck.OUCH it was so painful. I even fill alittle sore in the tummy! Who else has experienced that?????

I think almost everyone on here will say they experienced that. Chewing is crucial in not getting foods stuck, so try your hardest to make sure you are throughly chewing. Also when was your 2nd fill? It could be too early to have things like that. I hope your feeling better, and good luck to you.

If you have a stuck episode and vomit it is best to back to liquids only for 24 hours to give your stomach a rest and time for the swelling to go down.

For me it can take a while to adjust to a fill. Take it slow and easy and don't eat those tough to swallow foods until you are sure you can handle it.

I decided to stay with the mushy soft easy food, like oatmeal. My 2nd fill was just 2days ago. I like Soup it goes down easy, and ice cream, yogurt and I hate the Protein Shakes, so that is out. I hope this new fill will help me back to losing again I stop 2 weeks ago. Thanks for the advice.

Nomebug,

You do know the foods you are speaking of are all slider foods right?

Real foods will stand by you longer so don't make slider foods a way of life.

yes but right now I am scared to eat anything with more. I got work my way up to what I can eat and what I can't, what should I try to start eating, I thought maybe scrambled eggs, and mac & cheese but tomorrow I start with those foods.

I have had a lot more restriction since my second fill. Prior to that, although I never was really hungy, and content to eat small portions, I was able to eat5 anything I tried. Since my 2nd fill, I have experienced several incidents of food getting stuck. The longest was for 1/2 hour, and was painful. I know its due to poor eating habits which I desperately need to change. I also discovered that I now have problems with eating tilapia, which I never had before. I think I will need to be sure to have a sauce on it in the future (and on all my meats)to see if that helps.

I can't eat scrambled eggs unless I put something in them like tomatoes. I do better with eggs over medium.

Hey Nomebug,

I definitely know how you feel! I tried a piece of chicken breast 2 days after my fill and it was awful...

I was told by my fill doctor that after a fill you have to be on liquids for 24 hours, then soft "mushies" for 24 hours after that since it causes swelling and what not, now I know why...

Soup and yoghurt are slider foods? These are foods that give good nutrition, and yogurt - protein... the ice cream yes, but my NUT and surgeon don't consider the other 2 sliders...

Yes Soup and yogurt are slider foods. They may have Protein and nutrients in them, but they don't stay in your pouch as long as more solid foods might. Ice cream and macaroni and cheese.....well..... ummmmm... don't think those are on any pre-op diet. Not saying I haven't had any ice cream since my surgery, just saying those are foods that are not often seen on a list of recommended foods. The whole thing is a LOT of trial and error - and what works for one, may not be the best for the next. Good luck to you. Becky

Very true they don't stay in very long, but when one is tight in the early afternoon, home made Soup with lots of chunky veggies, and even some meat (very moist when in the soups) does work. Our doc and nutritionist encourages yogurt and cottage cheese always.

I have trouble with some "real" foods, and having a variety of things in a soup/stew helps to get balance and does stay with me for several hours.

You are so very right nfl. I was not saying there is anything wrong with Soup and yogurt. I eat them all the time. My band is not even open for business until 2:00 pm. My doctor wants me to have a Protein Shake for breakfast (forever) and it's a good thing he does - that is about all I can get, and keep, down. I too have trouble with some "real foods" and you are right about getting in meat and veggies in soup. They are considered slider foods, but we all have to do what works for us. Yogurt is my treat every night. Sorry if I came off like I thought there was something wrong with eating these foods - not what I meant at all. I am a firm believer in doing what you need to do to make this process work - and that is different for every one of us. Nice to have the support. We are all in this together!! Becky

Hey Becky,

I didn't take it wrong, what you were trying to say about sliders... Sliders just don't keep us filled as long as more bulky foods. My doc's office also approves nutritious slider foods, but gave me a hint... always try to eat a little Protein first. The Protein takes longer to break down and will slow down the "slide" of yogurt or other softer foods.

It's all about being satisfied (not hungry). We feel hungry if our pouch is not full. When we eat the slider foods, they slide into the lower stoma and we are hungrier earlier.

Thanks for your post Rutiglius. I've spent months working on fills, restriction, and figuring out what foods agree with my band and what foods don't. Now that I have all of that pretty well down, I am beginning to do some major work on the part of my body from the neck up. Figuring out the whole hunger/satisfied/full thing.... yikes. Many years of not knowing those feelings, and not dealing with them well..... got some work to do, that's for sure. Glad I'm here to get the support from others who are in the same boat. It helps!! Take care. Becky

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
