Seeing myself in the mirror

Recommended Posts

I can't wait to lose weight & FINALLY look in the mirror & see the "real" me that's hiding behind all this STUFF on my body. I feel like I should just be able to unzip this fat body & step out of it all.

Why can't I see the real me that is FAT?!?! When I think of myself, I still imagine the "normal" size person that I used to be. My dreams are the same way. I've been overweight for over 10 years & every time I take a picture I say to my husband - "Is that really me?!?" My husband says it means I have a good self-esteem. I think it means I am not living in reality.

There's so much that the body inside wants to do, but can't because this fat suit keeps holding me back.

My biggest NSV will be the day I can look in the mirror & recognize the person that is looking back at me. I'M GOING TO GET THERE!!! And when I do, I'll send you all the hot picture. Only 80 more lbs to go.....

I hope for you it is different then for me..I wish it were that easy for me. I have lost 95 lbs and now am in a size 10. started in a size 22. I still see an obese woman when I look in the mirror, it has been an image I have seen for so many years, it is very hard for me to see myself any other way. I sitll find myself going to the plus size department when shopping for clothes. I know Im not obese due to the size Iam in and what the BMI chart says but it is still hard to get it out of my head.

I think because you have a picture of a thin you in your head that you will have a better chance to reach your goal.

I've always had a fat woman living in my brain. Even when I was a teenager, I thought I was terribly huge. But I look at my very old year books, and I'm the same size relative to the other girl.s

Pictures in my mind... i'm working on changing to a thinner version... to a place I used to be.

I've been taking pictures of myself every month of my weight loss journey. The day of my surgery I had my husband take a picture of me from every angle. I had never seen myself from the back & I about DIED when I looked at it. I have the picture hanging inside the door of my office & I see it every day. It blows me away that the whole world sees this side of me the most & I have been oblivious to how bad it really is.

Vines, I sure hope you are right about being able to reach my goal faster by having the THIN vision in my mind. :D

La_Madam, when you were size 22, did you ever invision yourself as being thin or are you like Vines? I am wondering if I am the odd ball here!! :D:D

How about the rest of you? What do you invision yourself to be on the inside? Why is it that our minds & the actual person we are don't ever meet up?

I've been calling it reverse body dysmorphia. I have always thought of myself as smaller than I am (yes it could be that I refuse to let reality into my party). When I catch my reflection in a store window I am shocked. I am not really that big???Am I??

It will be wonderful to catch my reflection in the future and say "Yup, thats me"

Good luck to all,

One of my many weight losses, I lost 70 pounds and I felt still VERY HUGE, When I look at the picture from then I cna't believe how great I looked! I can't wait to get there. This time I know I will and it will last. I took pictures Sunday night before the surgery on Monday. I want to also take pictures every month to SEE the change.

I'm exactly the same - and not just with weight. I just looked at a photo of myself that was taken yesterday. Not too bad a photo actually, but not "me" as I see myself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
