Late periods, anyone?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so let me preface this by saying that my period is ALWAYS regular. Only once in my whole life have I been late. However, I was due to start on the 5th, but it still hasn't shown up. I feel like I've had pms for over a week now though. I even took a pregnancy test to make sure I wasn't pregnant, even though I didn't think I was. It came back negative {THANK GOD}. So I was wondering, has anyone else gone through this? I know 5 days may not seem like alot, but it is for me. I was banded May 20th and even after that, my period was regular. I read online that dramatic weight loss can be a factor, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this? THANKS!

I started my period the day after my banding but didnt have one again for another 6 weeks. I KNEW I wasnt pregnant and was a little concerned, as I was very regular pre-op. I've been regular since. I wouldnt worry.

Check with your gynecologist. Usually weight loss makes you more regular, not less so...especially since you're almost a week late (confirm you counted correctly, of course!)

Were you perhaps on the pill or some other hormone type contraceptive that you discontinued before the surgery?

I was looking for a post like this. My period is a week late as well. I know that weight-loss can effect your cycle and while I know I am not pregnant...I was starting to get concerned.

Look forward to hearing the experience of others....

Thats so funny, because the same happened to me. Its like he banded me and squeezed my uterus while he was in there. My issues is its been going for a long time. It got heavy about 3 days into it and it hasn't died down yet.

The same thing happened to me. I was due to start the week of my surgery. I didn't get a cycle until 3 months later (I also knew that there was no way I was pregnant). When it came back, it came back strong! I have been very regular since then.

Thank you for this posting!!!!!

I thought I was alone here...I last had mine on June 24 a week before surgery and I have yet to have another, although I have had terrible PMS.....I keep thinking ok im gonna start today, but then nothing. This is driving me crazy......I have been tempted to buy a preggo test as well, even though my hubby can not produce children..HAHA, what a laugh that would be...I have only lost about 20 pounds since surgery so I wasn't to sure if that had something to do with it. I do think that just the sure fact of having surgery maybe has something to do with it..I will be seeing my gyno. this week. Don't get me wrong, im glad im not bleeding and cramping:thumbup: but im so HATING this VERY BAD PMS:bored:...Glad I found this thread....

I actually have NEVER been regular in my life and the only time I've gotten a period is when I've been on birth control. However, 2 days ago I got my first period in months (because I went off my birth control a few months before surgery) WITHOUT birth control! I am SO happy about this. One of the (many) reasons I got lapband was because I was concerned that my weight would contribute to possible infertility issues in the future. I am hoping this trend of natural, at least semi-regular periods continues!!

Well add me to the list. I got my period the day after surgery (7-23-09), and I am a few days late (never happens because Ive been on and off bc pills for years)! I have PMS symptoms also and feel like my period will come on any second now, but it has not. Glad im not alone!

I have to rely on birth control pills to have a regular period. Otherwise I would have about 3 a year. I have been on pills for like 15 years and during this time, my periods have been consistantly regular, last 3-4 days with a little cramping. I have continued to be regular after my surgery but they are only lasting like 2 days and are rather light in comparison to what they were before the band. I also have more cramps and Fluid retention. My doc has checked me for cysts, fibroids etc. and she says everything is ok. I was actually anticipating them lasting longer and get heavier with weight loss but I appear to be drying up.

So glad I found this!! I used to be 28 days like clockwork...and I'm 3 days late. AF was supposed to come on Thursday and so far no sign. Is it hormones or could it possibly be that I'm pregnant??? I really don't want to get my hopes up OR buy expensive tests if I'll just be disappointed again. Although it would be unplanned, we were going to start trying in March anyway. BUT if you all have experienced similar changes, I'll stop getting my hopes up and just wait for the inevitable TOM.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
