Finallly Banded on 8/10/09

Recommended Posts

I am finally banded... I am going to be honest with everyone, I thought this was going to be easier. I did suppose to stay over night but he let me come home. When I woke up, I was in so much pain that I thought to myself what in the world have I done. I am not having alot of gas pain it is all right there where my port is. I will say the girls at the hospital was great. I knew that I had to get up and get walking, so I did. My husband is also being so good. I am not having a problem getting anything down. I have drank a Protein Drink, glass of Water, 8 0z of chicken broth. I am having alot of itching from the Lortab he gave me. I forgot that made me itch. I don't know if I can take benadryl or not. I guess I will call later and see. I would like to hear from yall that got banded on the 10th. I want to know if yall are having the same port site pain. Hope you are all doing well.

Hi everyone - I was banded on the 10th too and I hate to join the consensus, but I thought it would be easier also! Its bearable. I had alot of pain yesterday, thank God I stayed overnight in the hospital. I don't know how you girls did it that came home the same day, you are WARRIORS! I'm sure of course it will get better, but today, lots of gas and yes that port site hurts like hell whenever I move. I was disappointed my dr only sent me home with Tylenol with codeine. I thought I needed something stronger, since they had me on a morphine pump in the hospital! We will all be feeling much more ourselves in a couple days, from what I hear. :(

sorry my report is the same I must say ,I'm honestly still in kinda of a shock as to what I have actually done but I know that it WILL work and that we WILL be successful and WHEN we get to onederland we'll all look back at this post and say "silly girl ". I really was unprepared for the gas pain though ! The gas-x isn't working and I am very sore at my port site even with the Lortab.

Ok guys I have another question? I am having alot of of this. When I lay down to take a nap, when I set up I get very very nausated. I just nearly vomit. Lots of saliva in my mouth, I also get jittery and light headed. Is anyone else doing this? Please let me know, and what do u think it is, and what can we do for it.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one going through these pains myself! I stayed overnight in the hospital, thank God but I still hurt near my port side, have lots and lots of gas pain, feel really nauseated, have head aches, having a hard time sleeping (on my back especially), and am getting really frustrated really easy cause of the pain. I hope this goes away soon!!

Yes Allison I'm doing the same thing. The doctor and the nurses told me I need to release the gas in my stomach and that would make me feel better. This morning for the first time since surgery I actually farted a few times (sorry if TMI). It released some pressure (air)and I feel a little better and not so nausated! BUT I also took 3 gas X strips and 3 teaspoons of Maalox (sp?) before bed (cause I was in so much pain) so that was probably a contributing factor in the reason why I "released". Believe it or not I'm not hurting as much near my port side since I "released"! I hope this helps! I'm on this road with you hun, I hope we feel better soon!!!

Today I thought about what did I do to myself. I finally called my dr. this morning, I could not even move without trying to vomit. He called in some Phenergan for me. So I slept all afternoon. I am trying to sip down a Protein Shake.

i also think those gives me gas. LOL.. Can't win for loosing. But one good thing, the nurse did tell me that by Friday I should feel so much better. I am hoping so. I need to get up and go walk my 35 min. but I just don't know if I have it in me. I sure am glad that I am not on the same boat. Thanks guys.

Hey ladies I posted my story from today but I was having alot of these same issues. The gas was horrible but I found that if i help it along by squatting it motivated it too come out ( LOL!!) For the nausea I found that these motion sickness wristbands are a GOD send...OMG !! I feel sooo much better that Im actually sitting up nice and tall writing this. You can get this wrist bands at any drugstore, i got them at CVS, they're like $10. I also started the liquid children's motrin every 3 hours which seems to also be working quite good especially with the port pain !!

Hope this helps girls !! Through it all, it'll be worth it ( especially as I prance around in my bathing suit in hawaii next year !!!) YAY YAY !!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
