I walked to the end of the block and back on the day of surgery. I've increased the distance I can walk and shortened the time it takes over the 6 months since my surgery. I can walk 4 miles in under 40 minutes now and I do this 5 times a week unless it's the week the mow the lawn because I have an acre yard and I figure I get plenty of exercise mowing, LOL. On those weeks, I walk 4 days. I never liked going to a gym so I'd rather walk, which is an excellent exercise (especially if you're 58 years old, like me).

My surgeon told me I should begin exercising when I went to my first post-op appointment 5 days after surgery. I didn't really start then - I probably started 2-3 weeks after that and I try to do 7 days a week (30 minutes on the elliptical) but sometimes it ends up being 5-6 days a week.

Erin I got banded the same day. I am up to walking 3-4x a day at 10-20 min. intervals. My surgeon told me not to use any machines until he sees me on the 20th. I can't wait to get on my new elliptical!!! Good luck!

i never got told when to do exercising just walking and i want to exercise, i want to play my DDR without the jump mode and play wii fit, and i really want an eliptical but i cant afford to go to the gym and i really want to. i saw my surgeron twice after surgery due to being nauseated but better now and i see him again on the 19th he or his office person is supposed call me today so i can ask him about a few things and exercising is one of them, for some reason my scale is saying im gaining weight and it dissapoints me ): but hopefully when i get off my time of the month itll go down again, i want to go swimming, how long does it take for the incissions to heal? i have 5, i guess ill ask about that too (: really want to go swimming before it starts getting cold! what would you say would be safe enough to do at one and a half weeks post op? like excersing wise?

thanks! <3

I was told that I had to wait 3 weeks to swim (or take a bath, jacuzzi, etc). I was just told to walk until my appt, which is 1 month after surgery. I have 2 little kids and they kept telling me to not lift them (or anything more than 30 lbs) for 3-4 weeks. I've been walking each day, about 30 minutes at a time, in the morning and night. I'm only 4 days post op though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
